On Thursday, the 12th of May, Peninsula Private Hospital celebrated our entire team of incredible nurses and those worldwide for International Nurses Day. Your commitment, expertise and dedication to the industry, our patients and the hospital is incredible. We hope you all enjoyed our special celebrations and were reminded of just how appreciated you are. Thank You!
Recently Peninsula Private Hospital celebrated its 100,000 patient through the hospital. Susan Chainberlain was admitted to see one of our hospital's renowned orthopaedic surgeons Dr Reagan Brosnan for a total hip replacement on the 19th of April. Ms Chainberlain stated, "I am very honoured to be the 100,000 patient and thankful for the beautiful gift and flowers". Our 100,000 patient coincides with the hospital's 40th birthday this year on the 12th of December, a very special milestone for our hospital.
This ANZAC Day, the staff at Peninsula Private Hospital paused to recognise the service and sacrifice of those men and women across Australia and New Zealand who died protecting our freedoms. The Australians who served in our defence force, at home and abroad. We remember their bravery and honour, their sacrifice. We also recognise the many health care workers who continue to play a significant role in supporting our Defence Forces.
We are pleased to announce that Peninsula Private has recruited a new and very valued member to their team. Jessica Farinosi, who studied at the USC Caboolture campus, has recently graduated last week with a Nursing Science Degree and an Academic Award. A former retail worker has overcome self-doubt to excel in her University of the Sunshine Coast studies and has secured a job as a graduate registered nurse at Peninsula Private Hospital. Jessica earned a University Commendation for Academic Excellence for her grade point average of 6.16 out of a perfect 7. Jessica stated that she was "confident that her management skills, interest in human physiology, and desire to support and guide others would make Nursing Science a perfect career move." Jessica is currently completing a graduate year in a surgical rotation: four months in a surgical ward, four months in a Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and four months in a Day Surgery Unit (DSU). She is also excited by the potential to transfer her surgical nursing skills into a range of specialities, including emergency, and to study a Master of Nursing in clinical education.
On Sunday the 10th of April, Healthscope celebrated International Central Sterilisation Services Department Day. On this day, we thanked and celebrate our unsung heroes, especially amid the past two years of pandemic uncertainty, for their fight to minimise cross-infection and manage infection control matters for patient health and safety. Our Central Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD) is responsible for cleaning and sterilising surgical equipment for our operating theatres and procedural areas. We thank their tireless work behind the scenes and acknowledge their vital role in keeping our Healthscope people and patients safe.
Did you know that: 37% of injury-related deaths are caused by falls, 30% of those over 65 fall each year, and there is a 23% reduction of falls with regular exercise?
April Falls Month® is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of falls and to promote the latest best practice fall prevention strategies. The overall campaign goal is to get active and improve balance for fall prevention.
April Falls promotes fall prevention for all patients and assists people to stay fall-free in our communities. Following on from the last two years that have encouraged people to physically isolate, this year's theme is Safe Activity For Everybody, encouraging older Australians to reconnect with their networks and community while focusing on the importance of participating safely in physical activity.
For optimal physical and mental health, it is recommended that all adults (regardless of age, health, or ability) do 30-60 min of physical activity most days. To prevent falls and maintain independence, this should include exercise or activities that improve strength and balance. Every bit of activity helps.
It's never too late to get active! https://fallsnetwork.neura.edu.au/aprilfalls/
A lovely letter of appreciation was shared with Michael and the Physiotherapy team at Peninsula Private Hospital last week. It is time to say goodbye to one of our highly valued Peninsula Private team members. Dianne Paxton is our Team Leader in the Domestic Team and has been with Healthscope for over 13 years. During this time, she has seen the hospital evolve into what it is today and has been involved in the development of new procedures and the improvement in daily workflows. Di has recalled she has loved being involved in the patient journey from the surgical ward through to rehab, watching them walk out the door with smiles on their face. She is grateful for the PPH family and the friendships she has developed over the years. Di is looking forward to a nice relaxing break, however she still wishes to give back to the community and continue caring for others.
