Fly fishing in the Tassie wilderness is cool in its own right, but when it coincides with the visual spectacle that is ‘the turning of the fagus’ - emotion runs as wild as a brown trout up a spawning creek. Speaking of, when a mate hooks a brownie in front of the fagus, the mind and soul light up just as much as those colourful leaves! What a time to be alive! Yeeeeeooow! 🤙🏼

What a moment! Ever since fishing this water, I’ve dreamt of someone hooking a fish in front of the ‘fagus’ shore when it’s in colour. Those dreams normally consist of me 😂 but still… awesome to see MerseyFly nab a prime specimen here!
For those unaware, nothofagus gunnii or ‘fagus’ is Australia’s only cool climate deciduous native and it only occurs in some of Discover Tasmania’s alpine pockets, putting on a wonderful display in autumn. It’s a real gem! 🍂
