This event further extends Netball Australia and Deakin University’s strategic partnership which aims to improve women’s participation in sport and exercise across their lifespan through world-class research and engagement with local communities.

On Wednesday November 1 the Deakin Sport Network will host a seminar focused on sustaining the momentum in women’s sport. Members of Deakin’s Women in Sport and Exercise hub (WISE) will lead a discussion around ways to develop female leaders and to encourage male champions of change in sporting contexts.
Associate Professor Pamm Phillips and Dr. Katie Rowe, from the Sport Management program, will host the evening, presenting relevant research perspectives and leading a Q&A with industry guests. Guest presenters including Nadine Cohen, CEO Confident Girls Foundation and Mark Anderson, CEO Swimming Australia and member of the Male champions of change in sport will each provide insights regarding how sport can continue to facilitate a culture that support’s women’s development and leadership in sport.
This seminar is designed for community and elite sport stakeholders who have an interest in sustaining the women’s sport movement through women’s sport leadership. Deakin alumni, staff and residents of the City of Whitehorse are also welcome to attend.

Geoff Schoenberg joined the DUSSC Speed Networking Event on campus last night, giving students the chance to meet and network one-on-one with alumni and industry. DUSSC is the student club for students studying sport at Deakin and run a number of events over the year, including professional development, networking and social events. Sport Business International has released its annual rankings of Sport Management Programs (based on assessment of Postgraduate programs), with the Deakin program again ranking seventh globally. This includes a third placed ranking in the Course Leaders Choice Category. Our program is ranked the second best outside of North America, and remains the only ranked program in Australia. Paul Marsh - CEO, AFLPA
Paul Marsh commenced as the Chief Executive Officer of the AFL Players' Association (AFLPA) in 2014, joining after a hugely successful nine-year stint leading the Australian Cricketers' Association.
Bianca Chatfield - President, Australian Netball Players' Association
Australian netball star, Bianca Chatfield, is one of Australia's most successful netballers and a highly valued and respected role model for the sport.
Jacob Holmes - CEO, Australian Basketballers' Association
Jacob Holmes played 14-years in the NBL, retiring in 2015. He was President of the National Basketball League Players' Association for three years before establishing the Australian Basketballers' Association in 2015.
These Speakers will share their experiences spanning the challenges and opportunities in the current elite sport environment.

IPL Guest Speaker - Tuesday 23 August (6pm)
Mr Raghu Iyer, CEO of the Indian Premier League team the Rising Pune Super Giants will be with us at Deakin over next week. As part of this visit, he will address a combined postgraduate Sport Marketing and Facility and Event Management class to discuss the development of the IPL, the Super Giants and Indian Sport more widely. Mr Iyer will present and we will then have time for a Q&A with students.
Any Sport Management students wishing to attend the session can do so on campus on Tuesday evening from 6pm. The session will be held in LT2 (I2.05). Note that priority will be given to students in the units, but sufficient space will be available for other students who wish to attend this session.
A great day on Wednesday with a big turnout of students attending our VicSport afternooon session on campus on 'Standing out from the Crowd'. A big thankyou to all our guests including Meghan Albert (VicSport), Matthew Kennedy (Tennis Victoria), Bron Madigan (Dynamix Sport Projects) and Ros Holding (Sportspeople) for sharing their advice and to VicSport for supporting the session.
The day closed with our biggest ever Sport Management Alumni event held in Richmond. Dr Katie Rowe led a panel including Jodie Fields (Australian Cricketers Association), Josh Vanderloo (AFL) and Kate Patterson (Netball Australia) on the development of women's sport. Again, a bit thankyou to all our guests and all of our Alumni and students for supporting this event. Some great feedback over the night and looking forward to our next event on October 27. Our next Sport Management night will be held August 10 at the Sporting Globe in Richmond from 6pm and is open to all Alumni and students. Join us to network and hear from our expert panel on the development of new leagues and pathways in women's sport spanning AFL, cricket and netball.
