Wentworth Falls Rural Fire Brigade
Wentworth Falls Rural Fire Brigade The Brigade is now part of one of the world's leading fire and emergency services, and is wholly staffed by volunteers.
Since its inception as the Wentworth Falls Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, the Brigade has been an important part of the Wentworth Falls community, providing fire protection services and other forms of assistance in times of need. We primarily provide bushfire suppression and mitigation services, but also have a role in assisting other emergency services with storm damage recovery, search and rescue operations, and occasional snow storm support.
Training is one thing. Training along side the community is another level.
Yesterday the brigade teamed up with Bullaburra RFB (organisers) and Group Support (Comms) to conduct a running fire training scenario on the northern side of Wentworth Falls in Edward Parade. A handful of home owners gave the teams advanced permission to work in and around their homes as if we were engaging in active property protection.
Teams from 4 different appliances arrived in Edward Parade at about 1:45pm and tried to treat it like a real fire. Residents were also able to watch how we deploy and ask questions to help develop their understanding of what we need when they prepare their properties
High fidelity training where we get to introduce chaos and get people breaking into a sweat is where some of the most valuable learning occurs for firefighters.
Thank you so much for working with both brigades as we all continue to Get Ready.

Well Wentworth Falls, Its a wrap. What an amazing day.
We were so thrilled to see so many of you turn up and chat with us about your fire plans and make appointments for us to pay you a visit in coming weeks. Lot of fire plans and lots of conversations. Every exchange we have makes Wentworth Falls more bushfire ready.
We also had our Junior firefighters demonstrate their skills with a live fire display, which was a special treat for them and for the community. Aged between 13 and 17 they performed admirably.
What's the next big thing, well, that's a surprise however it's fair to say it may involve a red hat & suit....stay tuned.

Time to review those fire plans Wentworth Falls.
Do you have a Static Water Supply that we could use in a bushfire?
The NSW Rural Fire Service provides specially designed SWS signs for properties with suitable water supplies. This helps firefighters access vital water supplies quickly and efficiently to help them defend your property. Examples of suitable water supplies include:
--A property dam which can be used to refill fire tankers and firefighting aircraft such as helicopters which support our firefighters on the ground.
--A backyard swimming pool, which provides an ideal static water supply for small portable pumps and hose lines to help protect your home.
--A tank, which with appropriate fittings can also be used to quickly supply water for firefighting.
If you have a pool, tank or dam with more than 3,000 litre capacity and wish to be part of the SWS Program, come and talk to us at our Open Day.
Saturday 21st September 10am to 3pm
Hi Wentworth Falls,
Im going to ask you a very direct question.....how prepared are you? A little, a lot, somewhere in between?
Do you store wood near your house? Are your gutters full of leaves and debris? Do you have trees near the house? Do you have a half buried hydrant near your place?
If you answered yes to any of the above, it's time to Get Ready.
Come on down to the station between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 21st September and have a chat with our amazing team.
Never say never...
In 1957 the town of Wentworth Falls and Leura was decimated by a bushfire that started near the Katoomba Tip. Like so many bushfires, a lot of the destruction was caused in the first few hours.
It may have been 67 years ago however it could happen again.
It doesn't matter where you live in Wentworth Falls, you need a Bushfire Plan.
Come down to Falls Rd Wentworth Falls on Saturday 21st Sept between 10am and 3pm and we can help you Get Ready.

Hi Wentworth Falls,
This weekend at the station we’re giving out fire plans and invitations for our GRW on the 21st.
Come along and say hi by 2pm
Hi Wentworth Falls,
What a huge 2 weeks for us. We've had members out doing HR's in Yester Rd last week, Winmalee on Friday and Sunday, the Wentworth Falls Cemetery on Tuesday, Blackheath Wednesday Day (2 trucks) and again Wednesday night....phew....and there may be more next week weather permitting.
This Saturday we will be at the station to say hi as you head towards the polling booth at Wentworth Falls Public School with a very special invitation with each fire plan.
Cant wait to see you there.
Tim Parsley - Captain
Woody and the team had a cracking if not spooky day at the Cemetery HR today. Another 3 hectares hazard reduced. For Wentworth Falls. Many thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 495 Wentworth Falls for having us along.
Don’t forget our Open Day on Saturday the 21st September!
Tim Parsley
Hi Wentworth Falls,
Today (Tuesday 10/9) the brigade will be working with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 495 Wentworth Falls and other brigades to complete a Hazard Reduction at the Wentworth Falls Cemetery. Briefing for crews is planned for 1000hrs so we should commence shortly after.
Tim Parsley - Captain
While there are still a few things left to do (patrol and bring in all the hoses after todays wind), we wanted to extend an enormous thank you to everyone that helped us achieve the Yester Rd HR this week. We also need to thank you, the residents of Wentworth Falls, for supporting us in getting this important work done.

Hi Wentworth Falls,
Crews are out again this morning mopping up the Yester Rd HR.
Overnight the burn out of remaining fuel completed with crews now working to make sure everything is blacked out and safe.
Tim Parsley - Captain
Hi Wentworth Falls,
I’m writing this to you from the Fire ground this evening, and I can say with great satisfaction that all of the containment lines for the hazard reduction at Yester Rd have been completed and the burn is safely contained within the planned area.
At this stage, crews will be present around the clock until tomorrow evening making sure everything is safe
Tim Parsley – Captain
Hi Wentworth Falls,
At 3pm today we conducted a test burn and have decided that the conditions are good for us to complete the Yester Rd Hazard Reduction burn this afternoon and into the evening.
Tim Parsley - Captain
Hi Wentworth Falls,
At this stage the Hazard Reduction is proceeding as planned. Ignition is planned for the afternoon with the expectation it will be completed in the early evening.
To give you confidence, we will have a fire appliance patrolling the completed burn area every day until the weekend.
HI Wentworth Falls,
Today (Monday 2nd September 2024) is a Total Fire Ban
Hi Wentworth Falls,
So, today we had a fire call to Lincoln Rock on Kings Tableland, and what did we find, a campfire spitting embers in the strong wind. Unbelievable I know, however that level of ignorance exists.
Crews made safe before heading back to station and I would like to thank the men and women of the brigade for turning out on Fathers Day.
My request to you and community members is spread the word. Spread the word that campfires on lookouts might seem nice (and/or romantic) however it's a massive problem, even more so in this weather. In short, don't even think about it.
Tim Parsley - Captain
Hi Wentworth Falls,
On Tuesday the 3rd September (early next week) the RFS is planning to conduct a Hazard Reduction in Wentworth Falls on Yester Rd. Our brigade will be in attendance along with a number of others.
Its only a small burn but part of a bigger picture and strategy we are trying to implement with small pockets of bushland throughout the town.
If you have any questions you can email [email protected] or contact the district office on 0247847444
Thanks
Tim Parsley - Captain
