A bit about the builder...

Andy has no formal training in the building of musical instruments, but has messed with wood and played guitar from around the age of seven.

He was lucky to have a father in the building trade (carpenter) who always had a great tool box in the shed and was always there to answer the eternal question, “Dad, how do I do this?”.

His father passed away a few years ago, but Andy still feels his presence when he picks up a tool or selects a piece of wood. The old question still remains and he often finds the answer in his memories.

Andy’s skills with working timber improved over the years and took a big leap forward when he built his first boat at around the age of thirteen. It was, of course, a joint project with his father who was really the brains behind the build. It was a great result and the boat won many a race down at the local yacht club. Many boats followed over the years and his last build was a 29 feet Norwalk Island Sharpie built down the side of the house ten or so years ago - all timber and varnish.
