Did you know that all mines must have a deployed and functioning Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) by 31 March 2024?

What is a MSMS? Here are some key points from the Code of Practice: Mine Safety Management System:
It is a framework that brings together the mine’s policies, systems, procedures and plans to enable a mine operator to follow a systematic approach to achieving, improving and monitoring a desired level of health and safety.
👉 The mine operator is responsible for preparing the MSMS.
👉 The MSMS must be designed, established and implemented so that it ensures, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of workers at the mine or other persons is not put at risk from the mine or work carried out during mining operations.
👉 It also includes any documented contractor health and safety management plan that has been accepted by the mine operator.
👉 It covers the entire lifecycle of a mine site, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and closure – it must be for the current mining operations.
👉The mine operator must ensure it is reviewed at least once every 3 years and as necessary revised to ensure it remains effective.
👉The mine operator must ensure that before a worker commences work at the mine, they are given a summary of the MSMS that is relevant to the worker’s work at the mine and they are informed of their right to see the MSMS.

Have any questions or concerns regarding your MSMS? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

“Complacency is any time an individual is about to take on a task and says, ‘She’ll be right,’ ‘I’ve done this a thousand times before,’ and ‘It’s not going to happen to me".

This insightful article recently published by Australian Institute of Health & Safety is a reminder as to why it continues to be imperative that WHS strives to combat complacency in the workplace.
