Empowering Future: Thiess's Commitment to Social Development
Thiess is actively involved in social development projects as part of its corporate social responsibility. The Career Guidance project is a valuable initiative that can have a positive impact on the lives of high school students in Khanbogd Soum of Umnugovi Aimag, Mongolia.
By providing engineers and supervisors as mentors, Thiess is offering students firsthand insights into different career opportunities. This exposure can be crucial in helping students make informed decisions about their future careers. Additionally, the opportunity for the students to visit educational institutions in capital city of Ulaanbaatar (UB) and interact with university lecturers and students broadened their horizons and inspired them to pursue higher education.
The visit to the Chinggis Khan Museum added a cultural and historical dimension to the students' learning experience. Understanding the rich history of Mongolia can contribute to a well-rounded education for the students.
The visit to Thiess's head office in UB, with interactions with managers and staff, has been an excellent way for the students to gain insights into Thiess's operations, corporate culture, and overall approach. This hands-on experience can be invaluable for the students as they consider their future career paths.
Overall, Thiess's involvement in these social development projects demonstrates a commitment to positively impacting local communities and contributing to young people's educational and cultural development. It is a commendable initiative that aligns with the principles of corporate social responsibility.
We are thrilled to report that 46 of our employees participated in the Ulaanbaatar Marathon 2024, held on May 25th, competing in both the 5km and 10km distances. All participants successfully completed their race, demonstrating their dedication and team spirit.
A special mention to assistant accountant, N. Badamtsetseg, who competed in the 21km race on a handcycle. Her outstanding performance earned her a bronze medal, marking a proud moment for her and the entire Thiess team.
This prestigious event saw more than 21,000 participants from 34 countries, showcasing the widespread enthusiasm for running in our community.
Thanks you to Baaska who initiated running club at Thiess in Mongolia - Keep running, team Thiess!
Check out our video from the 2024 Connect. Yarn. Grow. Conference!
Our reconciliation vision is brought to life through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and key initiatives like Connect.Yarn.Grow.
This conference was a valuable opportunity for leaders to hear from Indigenous employees about their workplace experiences and continue the conversation from 2023 site yarning circles.
Thiess is proud to recognise and participate in National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June.
The 2024 theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder that the journey to reconciliation must continue to be a priority for all of us.
At the Thiess Group, our reconciliation vision is to enable national reconciliation through our decisions and actions each and every day. This vision is brought to life through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and key initiatives like Connect.Yarn.Grow, Thiess Groups' first Indigenous employees conference. This conference was a valuable opportunity for leaders to hear from Indigenous employees about their workplace experiences and continue the conversation from 2023 site yarning circles.
We invite our colleagues, contractors, suppliers and community members to join us in acknowledging National Reconciliation Week. To recognise the resilience of Indigenous communities and continue our collective journey towards healing, understanding, and unity.
The Thiess Mongolia team successfully participated in the championship held at the OT site and organized by MCSP from April 29 to May 3, securing a silver medal
Our team comprised Unubold E from the engineering team, Yerenbaatar S and Barsbaatar A from the construction team, and Lkhagvatumur A and Khulert E from the electrical team.
Throughout the matches, our colleagues and supporters continued to cheer on the team, with many of them showing up at the finals to lend their support once more.
Barsbaatar A, a member of our team, was honoured with the Best Goalkeeper award, receiving a cup and gifts for his outstanding performance.
We take great pride in our team's achievements and are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this event.
Our teams across Australia have come together to raise $22,000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation!
At Thiess, we bring our Reconciliation Vision to life by working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to pursue their economic aspirations through supporting education initiatives.
From the generosity of our teams, Thiess have donated $22,000 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation through the sale of our reconciliation artwork merchandise, where a portion of the funds from merchandise sold was collected for the donation.
Thank you to everyone at our projects and offices who purchased a RAP polo and cooler bag. Your support ensures the Foundation continues the work of three core programs: Book Supply, Community Publishing (books created by and for remote Communities) and the early literacy program called Book Buzz.
The donation also supports the Book Supply Program to gift over 750,000 books to communities, NGOs, healthcare and other organisations in remote Australia.

Today, May 17th, marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), commemorating the anniversary of homosexuality being removed from the list of mental illnesses.
It is a day to reflect on the progress made while also acknowledging the challenges and work that still lie ahead.
At Thiess, we recognise the significance of this day and reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and respect for all individuals.
In the heart of Mongolia's South Gobi region, our client Energy Resources celebrated a significant milestone this month - the extraction of the 100th million ton of coal in the Ukhaa Khudag (UHG) mine, the greatest milestone achieved in 16 years since its inception in 2008.
Thiess has, and continues to be instrumental in the project's success, by providing machinery and training the local workforce and fostering sustainable development.
Lachlan Minett, Thiess’ Project Manager on the UHG project, said: “100Mt is an amazing achievement which we are proud to have helped the Client achieve. Thiess has been an integral part of the project for its full life and we continue to support its successful ex*****on, which the Client has also kindly acknowledged.”
This achievement is a testament to collaborative efforts that have built a legacy of progress and empowerment.
Thiess is proud to be named in The Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) 2024 Top 20 Intern Employers Medium Program (intake 21-70), as determined by interns.
The AAGE intern survey collects information from interns who were employed by Thiess between March 2023 and February 2024. They are asked about their views and perspectives on a range of matters relating to their employment with Thiess, and their experiences with our graduate program.
This is the first year Thiess has been named in the top 20; in 2023 we were placed in the top 50 intern programs, so it’s a great achievement to see us rise through the ranks.

As part of the ongoing sponsorship with the Newcastle Knights NRLW, the Mt Arthur South team had the privilege of extending a warm welcome to some of the esteemed players for a special site tour.
During their visit, the players had the opportunity to experience first hand the operations and innovation that drive Thiess forward. They started their journey with a breath taking visit to the lookout, where they took in the stunning views of the site and surrounding landscape.
The players also had a blast trying out our state-of-the-art truck simulator machine, getting a taste of what it's like to navigate one of our trucks through challenging terrain.
And of course, no visit to Thiess would be complete without a trip to the workshop! The players had the unique opportunity to step inside one of our iconic haul trucks, getting a first hand look at the machinery that powers our operations.
It was an incredible day filled with laughter, learning, and camaraderie. We're grateful to the Newcastle Knights NRLW team for joining us and for their enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit. We wish the team all the best with their training preparations for the upcoming season.

Today, we join our nation in commemorating ANZAC Day - the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I. On this national day of remembrance, we reflect on the contributions of all Australian and New Zealand service men and women. Thank you for your sacrifice and service.
Lest we forget.
Today, we are proud to celebrate a momentous occasion: Thiess' 90th anniversary. On 16 April 1934, Thiess Bros, a small farming and roadworks company, began operating in rural Australia. Ninety years later, we have grown across seven countries and three continents, with more than 15,000 employees – to be at the forefront of sustainable mining and infrastructure services. Since our humble beginnings, our pioneering spirit has been the driving force behind our success. It's not just about the number of years but the ambition to do more, be better, and reach further. To pioneer a brighter tomorrow.
