We recently celebrated NAIDOC week through a series of events and activities under inclusivity pillars of Inform, Develop, and Celebrate, aimed at fostering deeper connections and understanding within our local First Nations Communities

We welcomed Renee Thomson, a proud Wiradjuri woman from BlackCard, who led a national webinar. Renee guided us on the significance of incorporating an Acknowledgement of Country or Welcome to Country into meetings, gathering and events; emphasising their importance as daily reminders that we live, work, and dream on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands.

Our Reconciliation Working Group (RWG) convened at our Brisbane (Meanjin) office for a Cultural Capability Workshop led by Mundanara Bayles AFHEA MAICD, Managing Director and Co-Founder of BlackCard, it was an exceptional learning experience. Following the virtual workshop and training and with a commitment to ongoing learning; our RWG will have the knowledge and confidence to action our Reconciliation commitments.

We welcomed Tammy Bowdern from Gami Art Designs to unveil her stunning artwork which will be the visual centrepiece of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. Tammy’s artwork, now prominently displayed outside the Peter McInnes Boardroom at our Brisbane (Meanjin) Office, enriches our environment, and serves as a powerful symbol of our commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Joining us in our celebrations was Barry Riddiford, proud Wiradjuri Elder and the firm’s Aboriginal Advisor, and Candice Hamilton, Senior Relationship Manager at Supply Nation and proud Wakka Wakka woman.

Our thanks to Renee, Mundanara, Tammy, Candice, and Barry for helping us build upon our knowledge and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of First Nations people and the oldest, continuous living culture on earth.
