Sol LeWitt’s Chester, Connecticut studio was the American centre for his practice. A six-hundred square foot space designed by LeWitt in the early 90’s, the studio was illuminated by floor-to- ceiling windows. In 2019/ 2022 and 2024, Barberis worked out of the Chester studio, exploring the history of her thirty-year friendship with LeWitt and tracing the confluences between her practice and his.
Next Wednesday evening from 5:30PM, Irene Barberis is presenting an engaging lecture on LeWitt’s studio and making practices, his influential role in shaping contemporary art and her seven residencies out of his Chester Studio, Spoleto studio and his Praiano studio as part of The Concentric Influences of Sol LeWitt at RMIT
Gallery.
