Today I am celebrating kindness towards women.

A few weeks ago, I approached a woman in the car park at our local grocery store. She looked apprehensive, fearful almost, of what I was about to say.
Her daughter had been having the tantrum to end all tantrums - it was quite impressive πŸ˜‚ - since the moment I pulled into the car park, throughout every aisle, at the checkout and back to the car park. Her mum handled it beautifully - calm, patient, stuck to her guns (yes you can have yoghurt as a snack but not a block of chocolate and a lemonade), but you could also see she was completely ready to crumble. Oh I have been there. Many, many times. I tried to smile at her a few times through the aisles, but she kept her eyes down, avoiding the onlookers and solely focused on helping her little girl learn to self soothe and accept boundaries - as well as getting what she needed so she could no doubt get the hell out of there !
Back in the car park I was about to drive away, but instead stopped. I approached her and told her how lucky her little girl was that she was her mum and how patient and kind she was. She burst into tears, deep, heaving sobs - oh I have been there also - and said she really needed to hear that. I shared an epic child tantrum moment of my own and then we parted ways. Her daughter asked, β€œWhat did that lady say mummy?” And she replied β€œShe said that that I was a good mum.” I’m sure she went home and had a huge cry about the whole ordeal. But I hope she also knew that someone else saw her, saw her struggle, emphasised with her and that she was not alone.

Let’s lift each other up. Be there for one another and above all be kind.
