Why do I constantly yo-yo and self sabotage my health?
Trauma.
Big T trauma, (big events like car accidents, sudden death of loved ones, big impact events) and little T traumas are the emotional/psychological/intergenerational traumas. Little t traumas are those unseen events that caused a feeling that you aren't good enough, loved enough, worthy of ___ etc because of your early relationships in family dynamics. And they can be really hard to pinpoint. You could say 'I had a great childhood' but when you go into your baby body and notice parents who were too busy to delight in you and your world, we get the quiet messages that we don't matter. Even if your parents did a great job of providing 'things', they may not have taken care of emotions or helped you through the big ones.
So next time you find yourself bingeing on things, or starting your workout regime only to find negative self talk creeping in on how 'you'll never ________' catch that thought and go deeper with it. It'll take you deeper into the trauma space that opened when you were a child and help you bring it to light and heal that. Reparent that part of you and soon enough you'll be working on you like you matter!

It's returning for summer from Saturday 15th October weather permitting, we will be doing a few different beaches too so look out for pop up classes for your sublime recovery and recharge classπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ

Hi folks, it has been some time since I posted an update on here! Mega apologise for the lack of updates, however, not to stress, loads has been happening in the last 3 months π
We have now got our 4th team member, whoop whoop, Billy Taylor is a veteran ocean rower, fighter of fires and all-round good bloke. Billy is actually the owner of Goldie our boat and home for the crossing, and he joins us with a wealth of ocean rowing experience having rowed the Atlantic (twice), Pacific and Indian Oceans. Billy is like the Daddy of ocean rowing. We held a teamβs chat to officially welcome Billy to the team, and err vote on who shares a cabin with Billy as apparently legend has it his farts super stink! Unfortunately, due to a technical error the video had no sound, so just a snap shot! Monkey Fist Adventures
In other news The Marina, Mindarie are putting on a Winter Black and White Ball to raise the profile and money for the venture, it is set to be a cracking night with entertainment, a raffle & auction and other acts. The event will be held on the 20th August at the Marina in Mindarie. Tickets can be purchased from the Marina Mindarie website https://www.themarinamindarie.com/whats-on/black-white-ball/ it is a great opportunity to get a group of friends together for a good night of dancing and socialising.
We have lined up a new food supplier for the row too, Radix'Nutrition will be supporting our nutrition needs for the journey, Radix are more than just a food supplier, they engineer food for requirements. We will burn through approximately 8000 calories per day and such will need to have the right balance of nutrition to support us. We look forward to working with them.
We are also in the final stages of setting up a charity and Brain Waves Foundation, this has been in the making for some time but is close to becoming a reality! More to follow on this in the near future.

Collecting for a more conscious collective π
Right now the number of people finding themselves living in their cars, doorways, under bridges, and displaced from housing is on the rise. Now compound that with mental health, abuse and trauma. Now imagine feeling that no one cares about your life let alone yourself.
Last week more people took their lives.
Last week it also got colder.
But enter my friend Sharon who knows how to bring people together for a cause π (she's amazing)
She has managed to collect 102 bags for the Street Dr (who she use to work for) and will donate them next Tuesday 18th May.
But your help is needed.
If you can donate a few packets of sanitary pads (so women don't have to be using old socks as sanitary products) shampoo and conditioner travel packs, or even message me (I'll send you an item list) and put a whole backpack together to donate before Tuesday 18th May.
It's getting colder for those without access to housing. And whatever life has thrown at someone doesn't make them less of a person worthy of love and life. π
Let me know if you are able to give anything. We are providing brand new items only. Something that is just theirs. Something that shows somebody cares.
Tip for the week: Use some different metrics for motivation
As a fitness professional, I like feeling great and like to keep my fitness up to inspire others. But, since this Covid palava, I have been barely scraping the surface!
I used to run about 8 half marathons a year, (for about 10years) and ran my first and possibly only marathon in Rotorua in 2010.
When I first got to Perth, I was running 8k to teach a pump class and running home after.. I was pretty fit!
But after having kids, my priorities have shifted, (and Covid, the excuse of the year!) its been a bit hit and miss with my running, opting for weights over cardio (cardio hardio right!) and stretching/pilates based exercise or walking (or lets be honest doing nothing π€£)
However, over the last month I've jumped back into (finishing 4mins slower than my fastest time) but at least getting my legs back on the pavement.
I love that today my watch gave me an excellent for my VO2 result π so must be improving π π
Different metrics can be great motivation for us, when we are getting back into something we use to love and be good at, otherwise we use comparison (all those stories about how fast we used to be) coming up short every time and beating ourselves up!
So, today although I'm not fast, I can still cruise through 6k without giving up a lung π
(VO2Max said so!)

Just a small improvement in some area can be a stimulating positive trigger to get you hooked back on the feeling of fit, which is a brilliant feeling in your body! π π
