August 22 | Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

O God, who made the Mother of your Son to be our Mother and our Queen, graciously grant that, sustained by her intercession, we may attain in the heavenly Kingdom the glory promised to your children. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Catholics believe that worship is due to God alone. Catholics do, however, venerate Mary. In other words, we honor our Blessed Mother with great reverence and devotion because because she is full of Godโ€™s own life and love, his Grace (Luke 1:28). Mary, by her own free will said yes to Godโ€™s will and brought the Savior of humanity, Jesus Christ, into the World. Mary is great because God made her great, she reflects the light of Christ and her soul magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46). This is why since the earliest days of Christianity, Mary has been venerated and loved by Christians.

Mary is the most beautiful model of total submission to the will of God. Catholics do not view Mary as equal to Christ, but rather venerate Mary because of her relationship to Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, โ€œMaryโ€™s role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from itโ€ (CCC 964).
Why would a Christian not have love and respect for Mary? She is Jesusโ€™ mother.
As Catholics, we pray that we can respond to Godโ€™s call to holiness for our lives in the way that Mary did. St. Teresa of Calcutta prayed to emulate Maryโ€™s devotion to Christ:
โ€œMary, Mother of Jesus, give me your heart so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate, so full of love and humility that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life, love Him as You loved Him, and serve Him as You served Him.โ€

It was in prayer that Mary MacKillop heard Godโ€™s call to educate young Australians and to do so through her own version of religious life.

By 1869 when Mary took her final vows, there were already more than 70 Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. They educated children at 21 schools, as well as working with orphans, homeless children, the elderly and dying.

Mary was a quintessential Australian saint. We can picture her in heavy habit on horseback in the heat and dust taking on the bush and desert, determined to bring the love of God to those Pope Francis calls โ€œat the peripheriesโ€. Through all this, she never wavered in her trust in God. May our first Australian saint continue inspiring us today. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us!

The Seven Sacraments: Our Journey of Grace.

Did you know that the Catholic Church has seven special ways to connect with God? These are called Sacraments, sacred signs that bring us closer to Jesus.

Let's explore these beautiful gifts:

๐Ÿ“Baptism: "Baptism saves you now" (1 Peter 3:21). This is our entry point into the Catholic Church, washing away original sin and welcoming us into God's family.

๐Ÿ“Confirmation: "Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:14,17). Strengthening our baptismal grace, we receive the Holy Spirit to be bold witnesses of Christ.

๐Ÿ“Holy Eucharist: "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him" (John 6:56). This is the most sacred sacrament, where we receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

๐Ÿ“Reconciliation: "Whose sins you forgave are forgiven them" (John 20:21,23). Through confession, we experience God's mercy and forgiveness, restoring our relationship with Him.

๐Ÿ“Anointing of the Sick: "They anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them" (Mark 6:13). This sacrament brings spiritual and physical healing, uniting us with Christ's suffering and glory.

๐Ÿ“Matrimony: "Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate" (Matthew 19:6). A lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, reflecting the love between Christ and the Church.

๐Ÿ“Holy Orders: "They presented these men to the apostles who pray and laid hands on them" (Acts 6:6). This sacrament confers the sacred power to serve God's people as bishops, priests, and deacons.

Each sacrament is a precious gift from God. Let us deepen our understanding and appreciation for these sacred signs of His love.

Which sacrament has had the most impact on your spiritual journey?

As Catholics, we should be very careful of how we approach the topic of criticizing Priests. Of course, Priests are not above criticism, and there are times when they need to be held accountable. But this criticism always has to be done with respect of their office.

St. Teresa of Avila said, โ€œBehind each priest, there is a demon fighting for his fall. If we have the language to criticize them, we must have twice as much to pray for them.โ€

These men, like the first apostles, are fully human and share in the weakened condition of all of mankind since the fall of Adam. Yet they are called by God for the sanctification of Godโ€™s people. St. Paul writes:

โ€œEvery high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: โ€œYou are my son; this day I have begotten you;โ€ just as he says in another place: โ€œYou are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.โ€ In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, declared by God high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. (Heb. 5:1-10)

The faithful are entrusted to the priestโ€™s care, who as a Good Shepherd, walks with them on the path which leads to Christ. Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the priest brings the people to a true knowledge of the Father and the Son and โ€œTo the contemplation of the living and pulsating reality of the Trinity โ€˜faciem ad faciemโ€™ (face to face).โ€ (St. Pope John Paul II) โ€œThe Holy Spirit,โ€ says St. Irenaeus, โ€œthe stairway of our ascent to God, draws the priest to the Father, stirring in his heart a burning desire to see Godโ€™s Faceโ€ฆthe Paraclete illumines the priest about his own Person, that the priest may come to see the Spirit in his own heart and history.โ€

A Roman Catholic priest is a man called by God to serve Christ and the Church through the reception of the sacrament of Holy Orders. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, the priest serves the faithful by building up and guiding the Church in the name of Christ, who is head of the body (CCC #1547). A priest makes a lifelong promise of celibacy and obedience to a bishop or religious superior.

A Roman Catholic priest is also expected to act like Christ because they are also referred as the Alter Christus, and sometimes 'In Persona Christi." Like Jesus, priests are for others, amd every part of them is created to glorify the Lord.

HAPPY PRIESTS' DAY!

Ang tunay na karangalan ng bawat pari,
ay hindi sa kanyang katanyagan,
kayamanan o pagkakakilanlan,
-- kundi sa bawat misang kanyang iniaalay.

Dahil ang tunay namang dahilan
ng kanyang bokasyon at ministeryo,
ay si KRISTO
at tanging kay Kristo lamang ito mapupuno.

Ipanalangin po natin ang ating mga kaparian.
Simba po tayo!
