We strive to incorporate Neurodiversity Affirming Practices into everything we do at Wize! Neurodiversity affirming practice respects how Neurodivergent people think, feel, process information and communicate. Therapy support services are not designed to 'change' the child, but rather to support them to reach their goals, work together with them and their families to adapt environments, and to educate others around them. Here are some of the practices that we focus on;

Our staff joined in with 'Go Blue to End Bullying' on Do It For Dolly Day, last Friday.

We wore blue and donated to Dolly's Dream, which develops and provides vital bullying prevention and online safety programs to kids, families, schools and communities across Australia.

Around one in four Australian school children are bullied each year and around one in five are cyber bullied.
All funds raised through Do It For Dolly Day will go towards Dolly's Dream to support their anti-bullying programs, including;
Dollyโ€™s Dream Support Line (free counselling support for anyone who needs it)
and
online safety and anti-bullying workshops for students, parents, and teachers.

Our second annual Wize Athletics Family Day is tomorrow! We are being joined by over 40 families for a day of fun, food and a little healthy competition! The Wize Athletics Family day has been made possible by the many supporters of our White Zebra Foundation.

Weโ€™d like to extend a personal thank you to our original sponsors last year, including; the Lawrence Group, Justin Everitt Design, United Exports, Bunnings Warehouse in Harrisdale, Euroz Hartleys Foundation, Flinders Financial, the Calder Family and the Shenton Family! As we enter the cooler months the likelihood of illness is higher, especially for children. Please see the information below so that we can work together to protect our community.

It is important for a number of reasons that children donโ€™t engage in therapy when they are ill. This means in the clinic, the home or the school environment. It also means that if you, or someone else in the family is unwell, that we donโ€™t engage in therapy if there is the likelihood of direct contact with the therapist. Some of the reasons we would prefer therapy not to go ahead are;
- Children donโ€™t have as much energy to engage in challenging tasks when they are sick therefore the session is less productive.
- Rest, including both physical and mental rest, is a really important factor in helping children to get better more quickly.
- Therapy is a very helpful part of your childโ€™s life but it is not critical โ€“ itโ€™s completely OK to take a break to recover, then pick up again when they are feeling well.
- Our therapists work really hard across the week, seeing multiple children. We really need to protect them from illness so they can continue to work at their best.
- Therapists use strict infection control practices, however because they are seeing multiple children across the day, there is a higher risk of transmission of illness to other children.
- We also see a number of children who have low immunity. It is our collective responsibility to protect these children from serious illness.

We assure you that wherever possible, we will substitute an alternative service into your cancelled appointment time. This may be a zoom session, or a family coaching and capacity-building phone call. Your therapist might also be able to spend time working on an indirect service such as report writing, programming or researching assistive technology. That way, you are still receiving support relating to your childโ€™s goals.

We will only charge cancellation fees where we are unable to substitute a cancelled face-to-face appointment with an alternative service delivery option. If you have an NDIS plan, it is expected that some sessions will need to be cancelled and the National Disability Insurance Agency allows for these charges. If however you are concerned about your childโ€™s plan funding running short, you can talk to us.

Hopefully, through being cautious and considerate we can all get through the flu season with minimal interruption for everyone. Take care.

Paula and Jodie
Directors, WizeTherapy
