Wedding favours carry a timeless tradition of gratitude, yet as times change, so do our practices.
In Tamil weddings, we gift palaharam (sweet and savory snacks) bags, cherished tokens of appreciation. Traditionally made just before the wedding, they’re now prepared weeks in advance for convenience, requiring individual/sealed packaging to maintain freshness.

As our awareness of sustainability grows, so does our responsibility to minimise waste.
Here are some ways to make your wedding favours more eco-friendly:

1. Opt for recyclable or biodegradable packaging to reduce landfill waste. While silk bags may be beautiful, only a handful are kept, with the rest ending up in landfills. Consider using boxes or bags made from recycled materials, boxes/bags that you believe are good keepsakes, or opt for materials that can be recycled.

2. Whenever possible, aim to have the palaharams made closer to the wedding date to maintain freshness, minimising the need for excessive packaging.

3. Organise a palaharam packing day, separating savory and sweet treats into two different biodegradable/recyclable packages to eliminate the use of plastic packaging for each individual item.

Let’s celebrate love while treading lightly on the planet. 🌱💕

About that time we were planning our wedding in the middle of a pandemic...
Plans changed, guest lists shrunk, but most I was on regular watchout on the travel rules to ensure my siblings and closest friends and family could all make it – and they did 😊. End result? An unforgettable celebration that even COVID couldn’t dampen!
Despite the chaos, our wedding and the lead up to it were some of the best days of my life! I have always loved going to weddings, watching love being celebrated and of course the food and dancing, but it was after my wedding I knew I needed to be in the heart of where love stories shine brightest.

So, I've donned a new hat: your trusty wedding celebrant!
