**NCC 2022 Hot Tip**

One major change in NCC 2022 not related to 7 stars is slab edge and under slab insulation - read more below!

*If you are building in climate zones 6,7 or 8 you will need to install slab edge and under slab insulation to every project (check you are using the correct R value in slide 4)
*If you install in slab heating in conditioned spaces, you are still required to insulate the slab edge, regardless of climate

The Adelaide leg of the Pro Clima roadshow to launch The Australia Study done.

The room was full of architects, builders and home owners all wanting to know more about building more air tight, higher performing buildings without creating inadvertent health issues as that is one of the challenges we face as an industry.

The code requirements are increasing, NCC 2022 takes a fairly giant leap forward for homes and we know that as tightness and insulation increase, so does condensation risk. Let's understand why and what to do about it.

It's come to our attention that yet another big builder in SA is wrapping their brand new timber framed homes in a class 1 vapour barrier in climate zone 6.

This is not compliant with the current building code.

If you are building in the Adelaide Hills or down south in Victor Harbor / Kangaroo Island - it's highly likely you are in climate zone 6 so please confirm with your builder that they are using a class 3 or 4 vapour permeable membrane to protect your building.

If they are using a class 1 or 2 vapour barrier, they are trapping moisture inside your wall frame which can lead to mould - which can have a serious effect on health of the building and health of the occupants.

Under NCC2022 the rules get even tighter around condensation and mould management - watch this space for more information on this!
