স্থানান্তর- The Migration
hand embroidery on khadi fabric
The official launch of the multidisciplinary art exhibition, EPAR-OPAR at Arts in Maroondah
Epar Opar in Bengali essentially means the two sides of the border. This exhibition is an important conversation - a dialogue between contemporary Bengali citizens of the world who reflect on their post-colonial state of being, while living in their adopted country. Activated by the desire to disentangle the relationships and socio-political agendas inherited from the colonial era, the 8 new projects in Epar Opar aim to examine the experience of living in a diaspora where ‘the border’ between West Bengal in India and Bangladesh allegedly vanishes.

The Bengali identity can never surpass the melancholy of the partition of Bengal implemented during the colonisation of the subcontinent. EPAR OPAR in Bengali essentially translates to two sides of the border. Activated by the desire to disentangle the relationships and socio-political agendas inherited from the colonial era, the 8 new projects in EPAR OPAR aim to examine the experience of living in a diaspora where ‘the border’ between West Bengal in India and Bangladesh vanishes.

Bush Diwan – The stories of migration and community formation are laden with struggles and triumphs. What do we bring with us and what do we leave behind? In Bush Diwan, artists respond to a pivotal moment in Sikh history in Australia by exploring the reclamation of identity, forming, gathering and laying foundations of community.

Ink, charcoal, and watercolours: Inner Passages by Tasmina Khan Majles Tasmina Khan Majles, the talented multidisciplinary artist of Bangladeshi heritage, has taken the brush to channel her inner psyche that is a weave of her conscious and unconscious mind through painting.
Back to my studio, happy place 🤍
Just a week ago, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and appreciation for my work while exhibiting my work first time in Dhaka. However, at the same time, my heart was heavy with concern for the ongoing unrest in Gaza.
While art provides a temporary escape from worldly pain and allows people to immerse themselves in its beauty, we also feel a responsibility to address humanitarian needs.
Therefore, I want to inform all the collectors of the Inner Passages exhibition that a portion of the proceed from the artworks have been donated to two organizations — the Sidra Foundation, an NGO based in Bangladesh, and the UNICEF Palestine Charity Appeal.
By coming together, we can embrace both art and the spirit of giving back. 🙏🏻🤍
Grateful beyond words for the overwhelming response and love received while exhibiting my art first time in Dhaka, my beloved hometown.
Your encouragement fuels my creativity, and I am truly humbled by the warm embrace of my people. My heart is full 🙏🏻
Goodbye Dhaka, untill next time 🤍
Little did I realize that it would be hard to part from these precious creations but at the same time I am glad that they found a space where they will be equally cherished. 🤍🙏🏻
