IMPACT Day is an exciting event showcasing innovative student projects. 🤩

Undergraduate and postgraduate students in fields such as Business, IT Networking, and Telecommunications Engineering had the chance to showcase their industry projects, and this week Lorraine Wilson was honoured to participate as an industry judge and forum panellist. It was fantastic interacting with the students giving them the platform to present their knowledge, ideas and solutions to real-world problems. 🙌

Congratulations to MIT on hosting yet another successful event that integrates industry and education. 🤩🙌🙌

Congratulations to Lalor Secondary College for organising and preparing the Year 10 students for their upcoming work experience. 👏

We were honoured to be invited back for a second year to share our industry knowledge and experience with the students to boost their confidence and professionalism, helping them prepare for the world of work. 🙌

We discussed the skills in demand by employers and the value of transferable skills. We also covered the expectations in the workforce and offered tips on effective communication and presentation to help them get ready for their work experience. 🤩

Thanks for having us back to deliver our mission - to help people be job-ready! ❤️

As a young person looking for employment, references are a crucial aspect of the job application process.

💥 A reference is a person who can vouch for your skills, experience, and character.

💥 Employers use references to determine whether a job candidate is a good fit for a particular role. They will ask questions to your referees and check that your responses in your interviews match up with your referee’s responses. 🧐

How cute are these donuts‼️😍 They looked gorgeous and tasted even better‼️😋

I’d like to tell you the story behind the donuts. These were sent to me by a former employee, thanking me for providing a reference for them. A beautiful gesture🙏💕

Now, you don’t always have to send a gift to someone for being a referee for you, but there are a few things you should do.

When you go for a job interview ensure:

👉You let your referee know of the job you are applying for and whether it is ok to put their name forward as a reference, particularly if you haven’t spoken with them in a while.

This way, they are prepared for the phone call and ready to give you a raving reference.🙌

👉Always ensure that you thank the person for providing a reference for you. As mentioned above, you don’t have to go to this extent of sending a gift, however, stay in touch and send a thank you text message, and let them know how you went with the job opportunity. 😉

By the way, if you did want to send a gorgeous gift like this, this delicious surprise was from .au

With gratitude,
Lorraine xx

🤔 When we think about communication in the workplace, this includes reading, writing, talking, and listening, and it happens in different ways.

From face-to-face conversations, including verbal and non-verbal communication and talking over the phone, to communication via emails, video conferencing, and work management software tools, you need to be clear on the best way to communicate and be adaptable to suit the situation and your audience.

The key to effective communication is knowing how and when to communicate and adjusting your communication content and style to align with your audience.
