Just Defence

The part of our work that we revel in the most is being able to give clients their livelihood back. Our client recently stood trial, and was facing a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment. Through successful negotiations, our client walked away from the courthouse with a conditional release order, with no conviction being recorded. This was an outcome that only 4.3% of people have been able to achieve. Many tears of joy were shed, and due to the work of Just Defence Lawyers, our client is able to move forward with his life and career. Pictured here celebrating the win.

The moments before trial are often heated and involve extensive preparation. For our client last month, our desire to win began as always, with furious preparation. Our client was due to face a trial on serious drug matters, which carried a sentence of life imprisonment. Through extensive persuasion, the Crown withdrew all charges against our client before the trial. We were able to celebrate our client’s momentous win, and his taste of freedom, with a celebration of delicious food with family and friends.

A wonderful evening spent with the intelligent and delightful Simon Healy, a wonderful barrister, advocate, and dear friend. As he becomes a Crown Prosecutor, we will miss Simon’s face on the defence side of the bar table, but we look forward to coming up against him (we won’t go easy, and we will be victorious), in the future.

Celebrating a not guilty verdict, and following that with our client’s release from custody, is a moment that is truly unmatched. Two clients on the same day, well… is always a good day. Ms Jeannette Fahd, Principal Lawyer, is pictured here with two of our clients, who were acquitted of all drug manufacturing charges and released from custody. Through intense preparation and brilliant advocacy, Just Defence Lawyers were able to secure our clients freedom.

On 30 September 2022, our client was acquitted by a jury of 12 in the District Court of the following charge: dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception. The Crown proceeded to prosecute him in the Local Court. We applied to permanently stay those proceedings as they were an abuse of process. A permanent stay application is a complex and often difficult application to succeed on. We did. Thank you to our friend and star of a barrister, Thomas Woods, for what was another wonderful win. Congratulations to our client who can move on with his life, not guilty.

It is an absolute privilege to be a part of getting the right results for our clients and watch them reunite with their families. The joy on their faces and in their voices never gets old. We celebrated with our client and his family welcoming him home in the most delicious way - a barbeque, music and dancing.

We are so lucky to have such an incredible team who never fail to support one another. Thank you for the beautiful orchid from an even more beautiful colleague. 🥰
