A great morning with a fantastic bunch of business owners discussing how improving your systems creates strategic advantage…
If your business requires your presence you don’t have a business, you have a job!
- Michael Ge**er
Systems reduce the reliance of your business on key people... such as yourself - the business owner.
Once you have the decision making processes documented within your business: "if this, then do that", you remove the need for key people to be involved all the time and empower your team to 'run the show'.
If you'd like to know how to know more about making your business run like clockwork without requiring you or specific key people to be present, drop me a comment below, or look up "The Systems Mentor".
Competitive strategy is about being different. It is about deliberately choosing a different set of activities or ways to do certain tasks (systems) to deliver a unique mix of value for your customer.
How do you do this?

One is too small a number to achieve greatness
- John C. Maxwell
To achieve greatness, you need to leverage the strengths, network and capability of those around you.
If you only know 10 people you can rely on, you have a limited pool of resources. It is only when you leverage the networks of those 10 people that you start to create depth in your network.
“Inaction is the result of an inability to make difficult decisions. The problem is that failing to decide may end up being the same as deciding to fail.” - Patricia Espinosa
Think you know strategy??
You don't know strategy!!
Richard Rumelt breaks down where we fall short of strategy today and shows the difference between Good Strategy and Bad Strategy!
Do you clearly diagnose the problem - the pivot points that multiply effectiveness?
Do you create a guiding policy to align resources?? and
Do you create a set of coherent actions???
Good Strategy / Bad Strategy will change the way you think about business.

"Self-discipline begins with Mastery of your thoughts...
If you don't control what you think, you can't control what you do!" - Napoleon Hill
"It feels like my team is all over the shop... I have no idea what they're doing half the time"!
This is a comment I hear from business owners all the time!... Until they engage their systems to create alignment.
But how do you do that?! How do you create alignment?
Clarity creates alignment! Getting your vision out of your head and presenting it in a way that your team buys into it. Making decisions that are consistent with your values and insisting on behaviours that are in-keeping with your mission. Building all your business processes on this foundation so the same theme runs throughout. This is how you give clarity to your team and drive alignment.
While this process can be challenging for some business owners, it is essential, and something I love doing.
Need a hand getting your team to start working towards the same goal? Let's talk!
This is one of my favourite quotes from Stephen Covey.
When you create a habit, you move your thinking from the higher level cognitive part of the brain to the lower level auto response part of the brain. Once this happens, you no longer have to think about what you are doing, and your actions become consistently more reliable. You reduce the risk of error and can rely on getting a similar result every time. This is what systems do!
Want to know more about how to build good habits into the operations of your business systems? I'd love to help.
How do you get others to buy into your success?
If your success involves a just cause that compels others to contribute, then they are going to want to see it happen?... if you're playing the long game - the infinite game, where everyone can benefit from what you are trying to achieve, then you are leading with a mindset that will draw others in because they want to be a part of what you are doing.
This is the Infinite Game. There are no rules, no start & finish and no scores. It's about creating an environment where people trust each other, are more innovative, can thrive in an ever changing world and will lead us all into the future!
Simon Sinek's "The Infinite Game" is a thought provoking book that will inspire you to look at what you are doing differently. Highly recommended.
Running a business gets really hard... and often there isn't anywhere to turn to.
In these times ask: What would this look like if this were easy?
Picture it: the steps, the process, the mechanisms...
Now create it. You're the creative one who started this business in the first place, so look at where the problems are and map out what should be happening. Write the steps down. Discuss them with your team, get their input. Now implement it.
Want a hand or some specialised input?
Let me know at The Systems Mentor.
