Nightfall, Moonlight, Morning
2018-2022
Acrylic and oil on canvas 122 x 152cm
From my bedroom window, every evening, I see the same landscape but never the same landscape!
Myriads of shadows and shapes continually adjust like a visual symphony. The full moon rises, the air pings cold, the kookaburras sing their bedtime songs. Strange bush sounds interrupt the silence of the night. Early bush-birdsongs herald the dawn, preceding the kookaburras’ cheerful morning calls.
Noting the changes in light and colours and the different sounds and smells during the different times of the days and seasons, I work with the premise that time is not linear. Time is layered. Time oscillates between the past, the present and the future.
My views of the mountain behind me are constant sources of inspiration. At night, the air is cool and fragrant, the dampness sits heavily in my nostrils, the mist eventually engulfs all.
The original version of “Nightfall, Moonlight, Morning” was selected as a finalist in the 2018 Fisher’s Ghost Open Art Award but has since been slightly modified and, as such, has made many guest appearances in other exhibitions including 2 solo exhibitions ("Distractions" at former Form Gallery, Queanbeyan 2019 and "Earth Matters" at SHAC Moss Vale 2020) and 2 curated group shows ("reSONATE" at HKEdit now Apt.91, Sydney 2023 and "EVOKE" at Sturt Gallery Mittagong 2024).
Quite the celebrity!
It is now included with other selected works in my profile as a represented artist with the fabulous Melbourne contemporary gallery Tacit Art. www.tacitart.com.au

EVOKE finishes on Sunday, 5 May. The next exhibition, "On Repeat," new textiles by Julie Patterson, opens 2.30 pm Saturday 11 May.
EVERYONE is welcome.
EVERYONE is encouraged to attend.
Come and see what others are missing out on.
Will Julie's exhibition be the last at Sturt?
Will Sturt be finished on 30 June?
Do yourself a favour, and see what we might lose if we "can't be bothered" to make a noise.

Those plans to see EVOKE at STURT Gallery over the Easter weekend can now come true thanks to frensham reversing their decision regarding opening/closing hours.
Sturt Gallery and Sturt Shop will now be open on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday from 10 to 4. Closed Good Friday and Easter Monday and Tuesday.
Many thanks to Head of Sturt, Kristie Phelan, and to Gallery Administrator, Slavica Zivkovic, for your continued efforts to help keep Sturt open!

EVOKE at STURT
If you're assuming that you can see this marvellous exhibition over the Easter weekend, then you'll be disappointed.
Frensham is not allowing Sturt Gallery and Shop to be open from, and including Good Friday until the following Wednesday, 3 April!
Not even by appointment.
Most disappointing.

Leonard French (1928-2017)
When I saw this , I thought it was a Philip Guston painting that I hadn't seen. So, had Leonard seen Philip? Was this a mark of the times, so to speak?
Great exhibition of works from the Bennett Bequest.
Inspirations....on the move....Woomargama, Benalla, Barjarg, Alexandria, Healesville.

Next Sunday, 10 March, I and 5 other artists, Ruth Levine, Birte Larsen, Maricelle Oliver, Nettie Sumner and Tracy Luff, are joining forces in the exhibition, EVOKE to celebrate Art, Design, Creativity, IWD and Sturt, not necessarily in that order!
The exhibition continues Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm until Sunday 5 May. The Sturt shop will remain open for the duration of the exhibition.
Please join us at 11am Sunday 10th March to celebrate the EVOKE artists and to show your support for Sturt – Australia’s pioneering design centre and school for contemporary craft.
Maria Stoljar, host of popular podcast ‘Talking with Painters’ will officially open the exhibition.
The Sturt Review Committee Chair Jennifer Bott AO will be in attendance. It is hoped that some of your questions can be answered about the soon to be announced Sturt Review Committee which is being established to create an opportunity for the apparent need for a new independent model for Sturt in the future.
Come celebrate the exhibition and Sturt’s unique legacy in Australia’s cultural landscape.

Please join us if you're in the hood. Lovely day trip from Sydney and Canberra!
The opening should prove to be a lively one as it also coincides with International Womens Day (8 March) celebrations and with announcements regarding the newly nominated Sturt Review Board members who will be deciding, over the next several months, the future of Sturt. Pretty important!
Thanks to Maria Stoljar for agreeing to open the show and thanks to Slavica Zivkovic, Gallery Manager and to Kristie Phelan, Head of Sturt for your ongoing patience and support.
The gallery and shop are open Wednesday to Sunday 10-5 until 5 May.
