Amy’s Gran Fondo continues in 2024! The story behind the world-class event 🚴🏻‍♀️

The inaugural Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo was hosted in 2011 following the tragic death of Amy Gillett, an elite cyclist who tragically lost her life while training with the Australian Women’s Cycling Team in Germany.

The annual event features the roads that Amy trained on, including Australia’s most spectacular stretch of coastal road, the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

Although the Amy Gillett Foundation has recently discontinued operating after nearly 20 years of advocacy, the event continues the mission the foundation began by campaigning for safer roads for cycling, and reducing the incidence of death and injury arising from the interaction between motorists and bicyclists.

As part of the UCI World Gran Fondo Series, the 2024 event provides the opportunity for any rider to qualify for the World Championships, which in 2025 will be hosted on the Amy’s Gran Fondo course in October.

The event organiser, O2 Events, looks forward to seeing you challenge yourself on the 130km course on September 15th, 2024.
