👏🏻Welcome physio Thomas👏🏻

“I’ve been working as a physio for over 10 years, and every day am motivated by seeing my clients achieve their goals.

I have extensive experience with chronic or acute conditions and have worked in hospitals, private clinics and remote and regional communities in Australia and overseas. I recently worked as a Neurological Physiotherapist working with people with complex neurological conditions.

I have a special interest in mobility for people of all ages. I have worked in falls prevention programs, keeping people active and living in their own homes. Mobility in Parkinson’s Disease is important and I am excited about the specific exercises and techniques from the latest research, which I have personally seen benefit clients.

I believe in understanding the person and the lifestyle, not just the condition, and recognise the importance of accurate assessments and clear treatment planning. I want my clients understand their treatment plan and to feel supported and empowered in their recovery.

Whether acute or chronic sports or work injuries, there is always a treatment option.

I have run marathons and triathlons, so can add personal experience to evidence-based treatment programs.

Areas of Special Interest:
•Mobility – gait training for sport or function
•Back & neck pain – chronic or acute
•Parkinson’s Disease
•Falls Prevention
•Neurological conditions - stroke, Multiple Sclerosis etc
•Pre and post-surgery
•Exercise rehabilitation and Clinical Pilates

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome is a pain in the jaw joint. The TMJ can be found just in front of your ear when you open and close your mouth.

There are a variety of reasons why jaw pain occurs and numerous symptoms – for example, you may be getting headaches because you clench your teeth, but you may not necessarily feel pain directly in your jaw. Many people are misdiagnosed – their symptoms are often put down to headaches, ear infections, problems with their teeth or even their back.

Common symptoms of TMJ pain include:

- Pain in the jaw, which worsens with chewing, yawning or opening the mouth wide
- Global or specific pain to the eye, ear, teeth, sinus, scalp, neck or forehead
- Clicking or popping of the jaw when opening or closing the mouth
- Headaches
- Grinding of the jaw (often while asleep)
- Locking or stiffness of the jaw
- Feeling as though teeth are not aligned

Could your headache or migraine be coming from your neck?

Yes, the neck can absolutely contribute to your headache or migraine! It can also refer pain down to your upper back, shoulders and that pesky spot between your shoulders blades that just won’t go away no matter how much you poke around.

The upper part of your neck feeds directly into your headache centre. The headache centre is the meeting point for pretty much all the nerves responsible for the symptoms of headache and migraine. Some of these nerves are the stomach (vagus), back of head (greater occipital) and face, cheek, jaw (facial) nerves. The information that comes into the headache centre then gets misinterpreted by the cortex (big fleshy part of the brain) as dangerous and then creates pain and other symptoms from where the cortex thinks the issue is coming from like nausea or pain behind the eye.

The underlying problem in the vast majority of headache or migraine disorders, that can not be attributed to a specific cause, is a sensitised headache centre (lower brainstem). This physiological disorder is also not something that will be picked up on imaging.

Here at Wisdom Physiotherapy we use a cutting edge approach to assess and treat this headache centre using only our hands. The neck is our pathway to the headache centre and we then proceed to change the sensitivity. This approach can be make a significant change most people we see and identify the neck as playing a role is your headache or migraine.

Welcome to the team Physio Molly!

“My passion for enriching lives through physiotherapy stems from the satisfaction I find in helping individuals lead better, healthier, and pain-free lives. Interacting with diverse patients to accomplish their unique goals is a source of fulfilment for me.

My journey into physiotherapy was inspired my passion for exercise, sport and movement while I was growing up. I have always loved being active, whether that is in the gym, team sports, surfing or just going for a walk in nature. I have a passion for helping individuals re-engage with physical activity and empowering them to meet their fitness goals. I have a particular interest in clinical Pilates and am a firm believer in its benefits for symptom relief.

Since graduating from The University of Notre Dame Australia with a Bachelor in Physiotherapy with First Class Honours, I have worked in private practice setting seeing a wide variety of patients. This has ranged from athletic kids with sporting injuries, to aches and pains from working a sedentary job, to acute injuries. I have kept a foot in the research world through working on numerous projects and beginning a PhD in 2024.

Outside of the clinic, you’ll often find me getting outdoors, going surfing or suba diving, or sewing my dream wardrobe.

My areas of special clinical interest include:
– Low back pain
– Neck pain
– Ankle injuries
– Knee & hip pain
– Dry needling
– Clinical Pilates
– Running and sports related injuries
