My friends in the south have been blasted with cold weather, with temperatures frequently dropping below zero overnight, and barely getting above 5 degrees during the day. Here on the Sunshine Coast, the weather has been cooler, but it's still pleasant to get out and about during the day. The nights are cold, and cuddling up in the warmth at night has been a lovely change from the sticky, humid days of summer.

This Yule is a very special one, as we also have a beautiful full moon in Capricorn exact tomorrow morning at 11.07am. As we head back toward the light, this full moon will shine her brightness down on us, illuminating the path ahead so we can take sturdy Capricorn sea-goat steps. A perfect night for reflecting on the first six months of the year, and the next, and what you would like to see brought to light in the back half of the year.

Sagittarius is the sign of the archer and for me, this sign always brings that image to mind. Ready, aim, release!! A wise woman once told me that she doesn't have goals, she has targets. Even if she doesn't achieve exactly what she wants, she still lands in the same area, and in doing so perhaps discovers a new or different approach she hadn't thought of. Don't be afraid to aim high. Even if you miss, who knows where you'll land.

This is what this full moon has been all about for me. There's a need to find balance between work and play, but also this overarching thought of a long trajectory. We lay the groundwork now for what we are building. And in reality, it's not that far away, even if it feels like it will take forever to reach your goal.

Bluing (also known as anil modamo, ball blueing, blue balls or indigo) is a laundry whitening agent that has a long history in folk magick traditions and is thought to bring luck and protection. Laundry bluing can be used as an alternative to the rich blue colour of copper sulphate (also known as blue vitriol or blue copperas), which is toxic.

There are a number of ways to include bluing in your ritual work. You can combine it with water and leave it under your bed to help with sleep, or leave a bowl near your front door to prevent negative energies entering. Dissolved in water and set with the intention to bring luck, it has long been used as a hand wash for gamblers. Combined with herbs and water, bluing makes a powerful floor wash and it can even be used for ritual baths (please patch test for any skin allergies first).

For me, I start to feel the Samhain energies as we move past ANZAC day, remembering and honouring those who have gone before us. This is a time of connecting with Ancestors, known and unknown, divination and connection with the spirit world. A time to give thanks, and a perfect opportunity to clear out your wardrobe and donate anything no longer require to those who may be doing it tough with the cooler weather. This also clears physical and spiritual space in anticipation of spending more time indoors during the cooler months.

The weather has turned wintery and rainy here, and this is a wonderful time to bake or make wines, ferments and meads. There is much to be thankful for and as this is also known as the start of the Witch's Year, I will spend this time journalling and thinking about what I will bring about in the next 12 months. This is a great time to revisit your New Year's goals and check in with how they are going too.
