Seasonal allergens can impact our cognitive function leading to brain fog.

🌲 Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, occur when the immune system overreacts to allergens present in the environment. Common culprits include pollen, grasses, w**ds and mold spores. When individuals with allergies are exposed to these triggers, their immune system releases chemicals like histamine, leading to symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, itching, and watery eyes.

🧠Brain fog, often described as a state of cognitive cloudiness, is characterised by difficulties in thinking clearly, memory lapses, trouble concentrating, and a general feeling of mental fatigue.

The Allergy-Brain Fog Connection:

🧠 Allergic reactions trigger an inflammatory response in the body. Research suggests that chronic inflammation, which can occur during allergy season, may contribute to the development of brain fog. Inflammation can affect the blood vessels, disrupt the blood-brain barrier, and lead to the release of cytokines that affect cognitive functions.
🧠When the immune system is engaged in combating allergens, it may divert resources away from other areas, including the brain. This redirection can result in decreased cognitive performance, attention deficits, and memory issues.
🧠Seasonal allergies can wreak havoc on sleep patterns. Nasal congestion, sneezing, and itching can make it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep, leading to insufficient rest. Sleep deprivation is a well-known contributor to brain fog and can further exacerbate the cognitive symptoms experienced during allergy season.
🧠Dealing with the bothersome symptoms of seasonal allergies can cause chronic stress and anxiety. Elevated stress levels have been linked to cognitive impairment, affecting memory, attention, and overall mental clarity.

Some natural remedies that can assist with allergies include butterbur, nettle, mullein, goldenrod, quercetin and bromelian.

🍌One of the most significant benefits of green bananas is their high levels of resistant starch. Resistant starch is a type of carbohydrate that resists digestion and passes through the small intestine unchanged, reaching the large intestine where it acts as a prebiotic. This prebiotic effect can promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, which can lead to better digestion, improved immune function, and even a reduced risk of certain diseases such as colon cancer.

🍌Green bananas are also rich in vitamins and minerals. They are a great source of vitamin C, which can boost the immune system and support skin health. They also contain high levels of potassium, which is essential for healthy blood pressure and heart function. Additionally, green bananas are rich in vitamin B6, which is important for brain function and the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.

🍌Another benefit of green bananas is their low glycemic index. The glycemic index is a measure of how quickly a food raises blood sugar levels. Foods with a low glycemic index, like green bananas, can help regulate blood sugar levels and prevent spikes and crashes that can lead to cravings and overeating.

One simple way to add green bananas to your diet is to add them to smoothies or blend them into a delicious and nutritious green banana smoothie. You can also slice them up and use them as a healthy snack, or even use them as a substitute for potatoes in savory dishes.

🍌It's worth noting that green bananas can be a bit harder to digest than ripe bananas, so if you have any digestive issues, you may want to start with small amounts and see how your body reacts.
