Subitising is an important skill to show young children. Subitising is when they are able to look at a group of objects and realise how many there are without counting. This skill helps children to understand what numbers mean or how many ‘things’ a number refers to. It can develop children’s pattern recognition as well as develop cardinality (knowing that the last number-word used in counting determines the total number of items in the set).
Also known as one to one counting!

I always begin my tutoring sessions with a quick game to wake up the brain.
This also settles them into the learning space.
Maths ✖️➗warm up to get the students brains 🧠 ready for learning!
Plus they love to try to beat their teacher 😊

Teaching Skills to learn to read and write!
1. First segmenting the sounds in words.
2. Blending the sounds to build words.
3. Then deleting and inserting sounds in words.
4. Finally putting those skills together to write a sentence.

This student did all the blending on their own to build this sentence.
They were so chuffed. ☺️

Hello Tutoring Families

Just a few things for Term 2-

As the momentum amps up for this year, here’s a few things to consider:
1. 24 hour cancellation- to help me provide the best service to all my students enrolled and on waitlists, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for any session cancellation would be appreciated. Failure to do so, will result in the booked session being transferred to your future session booked.
2. Rescheduling - Life Happens and I understand that. If you can’t attend the session please let me know 24 hours before your booked session and no session fee will apply.

Why the change?

This allows me to provide a better service to all my students. I can then allocate my time effectively, reducing late cancellations and providing opportunities for other students on waitlists to book those cancelled spots.
