The UWA Student Guild is deeply concerned about the recent proposals to amend the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), aimed at limiting spending growth.
We strongly condemn the planned $14.4 billion cuts to the NDIS in the 2024 Federal Budget, especially when contrasted with the announced $9.3 billion surplus. This budget decision shows a clear prioritisation of saving money over the well-being of disabled individuals. The failure to increase Disability Support Pension payments during a cost-of-living crisis exacerbates this issue.
Disabled individuals deserve the right to support that enables them to live fulfilling lives. Our voices must be included in decisions about our care. Nothing about us, without us.
The Access Department will send a letter to the NDIS Minister, joining the call for the government to reconsider this bill. We welcome anonymous submissions from impacted students via the link in our bio.
Please reach out to the Access Co-Officers or Student Assist if you require any further support.
