Craft My Life

It's been a long while since I've actively worked in Craft My Life. I made the decision to put it on the shelf for the last 14 months so I could 100% focus on my children's needs and my own mental health. I've needed to do a lot of ground work for us to move forward and be happy and healthy. We're getting there, patience is something I've had to learn and accept.

CML will be back sooner rather than later. So I felt like posting this just to say we're still here.

A friend asked me to make her an Easter Fairy Garden, as a gift for a friend.

She found this cute Easter bunny bowl.

Its made with terrarium layering and specific water loving plants so the plants will stay healthy and not rot.

I think its quiet cute. What do you think?

The creative monkey is climbing back up and ready to start again. I've had to take a personal break for the last 4 months. Life has been tough again!

To distress or not? I'm thinking destress will take away from this beautiful colour and it may be a bit too yesterday for this bed. It has bowed thin pieces that go inside the bed head and bottom end.

The mural has been painted on a wall at Royal Park in Launceston, paying tribute to the five victims of the Hillcrest Primary School tragedy.

I haven't made a kitkat house since 2016! I actually think visually that one looked nicer. I stuck to the Christmas coloured m&ms that year.

This year I added a mint Aero roof, as my kids aren't that keen on Kitkats anymore. It's no masterpiece, but it's cute!

Maybe you could be inspired to make one for your kids.

I don't follow any designs it's just from my head, but it's easy enough to come up with your own design. Don't forget to buy some plain milk chocolate to glue it all together.

You'll need:
3 kitkat blocks
2 Aero blocks
1 large packet of milk chocolate M&Ms
1 family size Cadbury milk chocolate block
***You need extra for unforeseen losses***

You could use mini candy canes, white chocolate or marble chocolate blocks for the roof.

Last week was awful, weather wise and in true I left prop building till the last week, because we know we get our best work done under pressure right?! But ironically we also don't account for the inevitable disasters that follow us, just to ramp it up just a bit more.

Yeah thanks, didn't need all that rain while building papermache walls! However I'm totally grateful for the 2 days of sunshine!!!

Then the sunshine brought hayfever! The worst I've had in years! So I had to put myself to bed instead of do my last 6 pre event hours of work. So I didn't get to finish my giraffes and zebras, and put together my product display. Hence why I appeared so disorganised and frazzled yesterday. But hey! We made it work! And it was a successful day and a great event to be a part of. 🙏

Thank you to all the lovely kids and parents that joined in the activities and supported my small business! I didn't expect such an enthusiastic response to my sensory toys, .....though its totally understandable! I do actually have a great range that I intend to only make better. (Stay with me, I have a lot more to announce!)

Thank you for supporting me to get it all there and back and for giving me moral support. I am grateful for myself but more so for our kids to see that parents that are exes, can still be supportive of each other after the fact!

Congratulations to all the kids who submitted their drawings to the you all did a great job! It must've been very hard for the judges to decided on winners.

My kids didn't win, its good to learn to accept wins and losses. However I'm extremely proud of their efforts, so I'm shamelessly sharing their art today.

Interesting, I'm sure most parents would agree that children need to learn through trial and error. We need to grow and develop resilient adults.

Our worldwide "lawsuit culture" has ruined so much in life for our children, then we get upset about how much time they spend indoors and on devices? Kids must feel so confused at times.

We really need to be aware as parents, of who we are creating in the next generation.

Obviously there are different circumstances for different families, but as a whole our kids need to be resilient and need to be having fun outdoors. They are only kids for such a short time in their lives.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, I struggle with parenting too. I'm not a "helicopter parent", I give my children freedoms to grow up and develop independance outside and online. Which is difficult in itself, but I'm glad that I've built that confidence in my kids to come and ask me tricky questions, rather than asking someone else.

My kids like many other kids will pick being on devices over activity most times. (Trust me, sometimes that's a saving grace for me. They are so difficult to parent while I try to work, it's impossible.) Yet If I initiate activity the devices are forgotten. This speaks volumes to me.

1. They utterly love that one on one time with a parent/parents. (a constant battle for time)
2. They need help to develop their initiative, imagination, friendships and confidence.

I am building a trusted business for families. As a single parent with no family here to support me with my kids, let alone to help me grow my family business. My kids are also ADHD, any parent of one neurodiverse child would know that that can equate to parenting two or more neurotypical children.

I have tried to encourage my kids to be involved with my business, to take ownership of it, which most times has been in vain. Luckily my daughter is now willingly, getting more involved now that she is 11.

A close friend of mine who knows my kids very well, has watched me try to get a grip of my life as a single parent for the last 5 years. She has told me on many occasions that my kids are far harder to control than the other 5 child household that she works for. She's stood in my kitchen speechless, as I've stood there in tears trying to figure out how the heck to work with what is in front of me. Ofcourse she always listens and helps me settle down and workout my next tactic. If I didn't have her support I have no idea where I'd be today! Kerryn literally has saved my sanity and my family.

My point is, life is tough but we need to allow our kids to fall and trip up in life to be able to learn how to get back up and survive over and over. Its the best gift we can give them. That and faith in themselves to never give up on themselves.

Thank you to my daddy in heaven, who taught me to never give up on myself while he nurtured me through my own ADHD childhood.🙏

Prop building for the Tas Pet Expo kids craft zone on the way! Building walls! I had a change of plans and now need more egg cartons.

If anyone near Trevallyn has egg cartons (½ or 1 doz size), old newspapers, or old flour please consider dropping some off. I live opposite Trevallyn Primary School car park on Gorge Road. You can chuck them over the fence, if you don't want to come in. Also clear plastic drink bottles with lids are welcome too.
