THE END | It's official... i for Design & Style is now CLOSED. But as the saying goes... one door closes, and another one opens.
This change has been quite some time in the pipeline, and I'm excited to begin a whole new adventure this week.
I'll still be designing interiors, but it is an opportunity to spread my wings and challenge myself in new ways.
I can't wait!
Thank you to all the amazing people I've worked with in my 15+ years of business, notably and many more.
Of course, a BIG thank you to my clients who entrusted their homes (their sanctuaries) to me. But mostly thanks to my family and friends for their unwavering support, which I know they'll continue to provide in spades.
Signing off... Sue ✌️

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Teen Dreamspace
This room has all the hallmarks of the uni student lifestyle: combining areas to chill out and study hard.
A desk was built in to one side of the robe area to allow for a queen size bed, and task lighting was integrated into the cabinetry over the desk.
Finished off in absolute style with a fabulous artwork, which is totally vibing off the Resene Energy Yellow wall.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Designer Indulgence
As you've already noticed, it was paramount that the robe fitout incorporated solutions that not only stored, but showcased my extensive collection of accessories.
Feast your eyes upon the brooch drawer! And just quietly, the pull-out shoe storage below isn't too shabby either.
Customised elements like this really elevate an interior. I spend the time with each and every client to work out their needs (and sometimes indulgent wants), to deliver an interior they'll love.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Walk in Robe
The secret to an organised robe is catering to all the various items requiring storage. And surprisingly it isn't always about the clothes.
In the end bay of this built-in there's a designated spot for bathroom linen and a pull-out, laundry basket, which services the ensuite beside.
The remainder of the robe is dedicated to all the bright and beautiful clothes, shoes and accessories belonging to the lady of the house (that's ME!).
It's a fusion of so many of my favourite things, and I admit that these days putting my clothes away is more of a pass time than a chore.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Detailing
The custom designed dressing room panel has a geometric design routed into the face of the timber grain finish.
Inspiration for the routing design was taken from the picket shaped tiles in the adjacent ensuite, with cabinet k***s located at intersections in the line work to act as hooks.
The LED vanity mirror is located asymmetrically along the length of the panel with long necklaces to one side, and two rows of shorter necklaces to the other.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Robe
Dreaming of a dressing room style walk-in-robe? This space features two gorgeous, solid Kauri timber drawer units, placed side by side to suit the linear shape of the space.
Mounted above is a custom designed mirror and accessory panel, and together they form a modern, deconstructed version of a dressing table.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Cabinetry
If you dream about having an uncluttered bathroom benchtop the trick is to integrate functionality within your cabinetry.
This ensuite vanity has integrated power, so appliances can remain plugged in, but can also be stowed away in an instant. And mounted on the back of the draw front is a handy, compact bin.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Ensuite
Shallow isn't usually a description with positive vibes attached... except when it comes to bathroom storage solutions.
If you like the look of an above counter basin, offset that lost vanity storage with a wall mounted, mirrored cabinet. Nothing gets buried at the back. Plus everything is at your eye level and easy to access.

BRIGHTON S HOUSE | Ensuite
We still have the original bathroom in our late 60s home - complete with a pink & black terrazzo floor, and a matching pink bath.
So it was a no brainer to have our new ensuite honour the retro vibe, but with a different feature colour.
The floor is large format, black terrazzo look tiles, with white walls for contrast. But those turquoise tiles...!
Some call them elongated hex, crayons, or picket tiles. But I call them the hero of the space.

MEET THE DESIGNER | Sue Innes
Now seems like a good time for an introduction. I have been an interior designer for 20+ years. The last 15 of those I've specialised in residential design.
My husband and I recently celebrated the milestone of living in our bayside home in Brighton for 20 years. We renovated extensively way back in the early days, but undertook renovation 2.0 in 2019.
I've just recently had the new, shiny parts of it properly photographed and am excited to share these with you all.
But first... a WARNING!
I'm a self-confessed colour ju**ie. The brighter, the better. And bold patterns and prints? Yes please! So this next series of posts is going to be unlike any other interior you'll see on my feed. Are you ready?

Coorparoo D House | Second Bathroom
The classic lines and luxurious finishes of this vanity are perfectly complimented by the period style taps and wall lights, and an ornate Victorian mirror.

Coorparoo D House | 2nd Bathroom
Each of the bathrooms in this home has Ming marble feature tiles with white marble wall/floor tiles. Fish scale was the shape of choice for this space. The soft green tones of Ming marble really are the perfect blend of luxury and serenity.

Coorparoo D House | 2nd Bathroom
The problem with the previous bathroom layout was that each of the functional items has been just plopped in a corner. The result was a room that felt cavernous and disconnected, rather than spacious with a sense of cohesion. Not to mention no storage.
🎩πŸͺ„πŸ‡ A new layout, carefully considered design elements and luxury fittings and fixtures has taken this space from blah to beautiful.

Coorparoo D House | Ensuite
The finishes palette has been carried through from the main bathroom to the ensuite. This creates consistency and cohesion. But the point of difference being that the Ming marble feature tiles are lantern shaped, and the backdrop to the mirror in this space. The linen look wallpaper is a lighter, soft grey tone to suit the smaller scale space.

Coorparoo D House | Tile Rug
The proportion and layout of this room perfectly lent itself to incorporating a tile rug.
Two different types of Ming marble mosaics were used: circles for the main body and (separated) herringbone tiles for the border.

2021 Highlight | Coorparoo D House
This beautiful home got the bathroom of it's dreams this year.
Being visible from the kitchen, the owners wanted a space they were more content to look at.
While retaining the existing laundry chute, the surrounding spaces were reconfigured to set up a more formal bathroom layout, and incorporated more storage, with not one, not two, but three cupboards in the hallway! And by stealing 30cm from the adjacent bedroom (which scored itself a brand new wardrobe), we achieved enough space for a free-standing bath which provides the focal point.
It's fair to say the owners are more than happy with the view down the corridor now, they actually can't stop looking at it!
Swipe ➑️ to see the planning changes and some BEFORE shots. More images of this fabulous space to come.

The brief for this project was to update all the wet areas (2 bathrooms, ensuite & laundry) of this gorgeous Queenslander and to bring a boutique, luxury hotel feel to the spaces.
The main bathroom upstairs was reconfigured to combine the existing three separate spaces into one generous room and include some much needed storage in the hallway area.
The robe in the adjacent bedroom was moved slightly to widen the bathroom to make way for a glorious freestanding bath, centred on a new, larger window.
Downstairs the layouts of both the bathroom and the laundry were changed to optimise these spaces.
Period detailing was used to keep with the origins of the home, and combined with luxe finishes including white Carrara style marble and Ming Marble accents that repeat in each room, but vary in shape to give each space it's own personality.
The client had a very clear vision at the outset and was instrumental in selecting the wallpaper, decorative light fittings and mirrors.

Practical style for everyday living

Gaining a thorough understanding of your priorities – function, budget and preferred style/image – is essential. I take the time to hear your thoughts, address any issues you may have and bring clarity to your ideas.

I then put my practical, yet creative approach to work - combining form, texture, colour and aesthetics to meet your objectives and bring your project together successfully.

This can be a stand alone service, but I also work collaboratively with architects and builders on many projects.
