Only short runs for me at the mo but I'm back to consistent runs now school is back in🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼 (my pram runs are slowest but rewarded with a park play at the end😍)

New York Marathon here I come...nothing like a ridiculously big goal to keep me on track this year! Not training yet but have started running again after a big break and am working in the gym to build calf, hamstring, and glute strength (and core as always) at this stage to avoid injury once I start training.

✅40 weighted reverse lunges (5kg)
✅20 weighted squat press (5kg)
✅20 plié weighted squats with heel raise (10kg)
✅20 weighted heel raise (10kg)
✅10 pelvic lifts on fitball
✅10 hamstring curl on fitball
✅20 single leg pelvic lift weighted and on inverted bosu
✅20 side bridge raises on bosu
✅20 knee drive plank on bosu

There is a lot of focus on restrengthening your abdominals once your baby arrives as obviously they have been through quite a bit!
However we shouldn’t forget that your CORE is also made up of your glutes (your butt), multifidus (back muscles), pelvic floor and diaphragm. So there is much benefit in pre AND post natal exercise programs focusing on strengthening and restrengthening your core HOLISTICALLY.
This can be achieved by the inclusion of exercises such as:
✅supermans
✅squats
✅lunges
✅hip bridges
✅and ensuring you master the art of integrating the movement of the muscles and organ that make up your core when performing these functional movements (as per our post two days ago – read that post again – its SO important!) This approach to training will see you in good shape, but more importantly will assist your postural alignment and reduce incidence of back and hip pain.

Yup, this is how we feel coming back from holidays. Well rested, but our guts are not loving us.
