Our bell has a history
History of the Rotary Bell: 🔔
In 1922, U.S. Rotarians organised an attendance contest; the challenge was that the losing clubs would join in giving the winning club a prize.
The Rotary Club of New York City was declared the winner and to them was awarded as a prize a bell from a popular patrol boat, which was placed on wood that came from HMS "Victory", Admiral Nelson's vessel at the battle of Trafalgar.
Since then, the bell used in Rotary meetings started to represent, as on the ships, order, discipline and the time to guide us through the weekly hour and a half meetings. The bell informs us with its sound the beginning of the Rotary meeting, other club rituals and of course the closure of the regular club meeting.
The Rotary Club of Ballymena proudly celebrated its 80th anniversary with the induction of a local Hollywood star! 🌟
Liam Neeson, star of films such as 'Taken', 'Schindler's List' and 'Batman Begins', received an honorary membership from the County Antrim-based club and sent a video message from his home in New York commending the dedication of the club's members ❤️

Rotary Club of Hurstville's Penny's Secret Santa Event On Wednesday, we once again joined forces with the amazing Rotaractor from The Rotaract Club of Sydney city, and we embraced the spirit of Christmas with our beloved tradition - Penny's Secret Santa.
It's a time of reflection and action, especially knowing that some young people in our community face the harsh reality of homelessness. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Project Youth for their tireless work in providing crisis accommodation and transitional housing. Their efforts are truly life-changing. This year's highlight was the joy of giving personalized Christmas gifts to 24 incredible young individuals. Each of them is courageously rebuilding their life after enduring trauma, including domestic and family violence. The smiles and hope these gifts bring is a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
A huge thank you to our community sponsors and the Rotoractor, who raised $1,660. Your contributions have brought light into the lives of these young souls. As we celebrate this festive season, let's remember the power of community. If you're able to, please consider supporting amazing local programs like this. Your help can make this Christmas a little brighter for someone in need. Let's keep the spirit of giving alive!
