I love wearing some colour when offering my peer support morning tea in the NICU/SCN units. They’re a great conversation starter and adds a little vibrancy in a space families often find so dark.

At 8:23pm we welcomed the greatest gift we could wish for. It’s been a wonderful 3 years of watching you develop into this beautiful little girl (tantrums and all 😂).

This custom press on set went out to a beautiful young lady for her yr 6 graduation 👩‍🎓 last week.

A great way to have fun nails in a less permanent, less damaging way!

When people think about a nursery in the hospital, they often envision rooms of cute, plump, newborns lined up waiting to be reunited with their parents and off home.

The reality is, behind those glass windows are rows of incubators, tiny babies with translucent skin, bodies yet to fully form, connected to wires, oxygen, tubes, their tiny bodies enduring daily pricks and procedures.
Next to that little transparent box you will find parents sitting, quiet, lost, in shock, guilt if they had caused this? Listening to beeps, bells and alarms requiring the medical team to rush to your babies aid.
Anger of what should have been a beautiful journey growing a little human was abruptly cut short.
This becomes home for the next few days, weeks and months. A roller coaster ride of emotions, great days and setbacks, often questioning is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Having this lived experience, it is truly an honour to work for a charity that supports these families, validates their feelings and lets them know “you’re not alone”.

Today is World Prematurity Day, a day to educate, bring awareness and celebrate these might warriors and remember those who have gained their wings.

Today I honour my daughter for her strength and determination to triumph over all she has battled. 💜

When you put out a 🆘 call to one of your favs coz you’ve been driving your toddler around to settle her, still in your PJ’s and hanging for that liquid gold ☕️ delivered straight to the car, toddler now asleep and one happy mumma….still in her PJ’s 🧦😂

My nail desk has been transformed into a home office, yet Aurelia still manages to find the nail gear and pretend to paint mummy’s nails. 💗
I love that I can take a moment out of work to have some time with my girl. Needless to say the nail stickers lasted a whole minute 😂
Meanwhile I had a play with some decals on my minimalist nail base.

I’ve enjoyed having some nails on again. I coordinated this set with my accessories for our recent 18th Birthday Gala in Melbourne

𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓!
(Where the hell has she been?!! I hear you ask?) 😆 Yes it’s been a long minute since I’ve checked in.

As we come to the end of 2022, I reflect on the year that has been and my cup is overflowing with joy and blessings. After the rough year we travelled last year, this year has been a time of enjoying watching our daughter grow and celebrate the milestones.
We celebrated her first birthday, my 40th 😬, Aurelia enjoyed travelling to Samoa and New Zealand to meet her family, we moved house and a new unexpected job opportunity crossed my path.
I’m excited to be working for Life’s Little Treasures Foundation , a organisation and service Metric and I used while journeying through hospital and coming home.
We are one of the leading organisations that offers support and services to families of premature and sick babies.
My role as Queensland Coordinator allows me to build relationships with over 30 hospitals in QLD, making sure families have the opportunity to receive support on their journey. I’m part of a awesome trained Peer Support team that offers support to families through private chat groups. One of my favourite parts of the job is being able to visit the RBWH twice a month to hold face to face peer support and sharing my experience with families currently in hospital.
Another enjoyable (and slightly stressful 😆) part of the job is organising our largest fundraising event of the year, the Brisbane which had an amazing turnout this year.
Those who know me, will know, this role suits me to a tee and I believe it fell into my path for a reason.
So for now studying is on the back burner while I enjoy this new opportunity and the new place hasn’t got the space to set up salon, though I’ve been keeping my hand and creative juices flowing by doing a set of nails here and there.

Metric is amazing as always, Aurelia is now just over 1.5yr actual, walking, learning new words each week and still a sassy little toddler 😝

Taking a moment to reflect and give thanks on what would have been Aurelia’s 1st Birthday had she been born on her due date. Not many people will probably “get it”, but for those preemie mums out there, I know you do 😉
It’s also around this time we were discharged from hospital into the big wide world after being in hospital for 76days. Lots of mixed emotions reflecting on this time, but how amazing 1yr flies by, how much Aurelia has grown , the milestones reached and how much joy she continues to bring us.
Not the ideal way to celebrate as we’re sitting in hospital with yet another bout of bronchiolitis (for the 5th time 😣) but none the less we’re here together 💕

It’s rugby 🏉 night in our household 🏡 Think I’ll go play with some nails 💅🏾 and leave these two to it!

Aurelia has been blessed with so much that she does not need for anything.
So for her birthday in lieu of gifts we requested that people make a small donation to her RBWH fundraising page for a service she used in the first critical weeks of life.

NeoRESQ is the neonatal retrieval service which supports regional centres in Central and South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The service transports premature or critically ill babies to life saving treatment.
The RBWH Foundation has the goal to raise $20,000 each year to keep this unique service on the road.

Our goal was $1000 and we’re so excited that we’ve exceeded this!

Well I was meant to get this post in before midnight 😆 but it’s been a busy couple of days!
We celebrated Aurelia’s first birthday yesterday 23 May 🥳 (I know 1 already!)

It was a day of mixed emotions, a time of reflection and reminiscing on the early arrival, the long journey in NICU, the fear of “what if” and never really seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

BUT we chose to celebrate! 🎊

🎉Celebrate the milestones and the progress.
🎉Celebrate the joy and love she has brought to all our lives.
🎉Celebrate the happy, loving, sassy, fiesty, fierce girl that is, our golden AURELIA!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to her life thus far (and yes that includes you my wonderful clients). Even from before she was born! We are truly blessed to have a wonderful village.

The theme for her party was 🪅 she enjoyed her day celebrating with family, library friends and preemie crew. She also got to have her first bit of cake 🤪

Now we all know when I get an idea in my head, I’ll try every way to achieve it 😂.
So a massive Thank You goes out to those little “ways” that achieved those ideas!
who (patiently 😬) took my vision, a marketplace dress and up cycled it into this beautiful fiesta dress creation 😍 better then what I originally looked at online! who again (patiently 😂) coordinated my vision and created this gorgeous and delectable cake. (The topper I made myself)
Compliments were made on both ❤️
