The ringing of the Institute Bell to mark the start of the Institutes' 150th year celebration
On Friday 21st MCDA hosted a celebration of the Melrose Institutes' 150th year. Attendees heard a short history of the beginnings of the Institute and shared memories of events & times that took place in the Institute over the years. Andrea James kindly agreed to sing several songs including the Song of Australia which was sung at the Institute Opening ceremony in 1873. A delicious afternoon tea by Gumview Gourmet was enjoyed by all. The Institute bell was rung by Margaret Bliescke to mark the start of the event as was done many years ago to remind the township of a meeting or that Friday afternoon tea was available when the surrounding residents came into Melrose to shop.
