Skyrail will remain closed tomorrow (Friday 15th December). Further updates will be provided in due course regarding our reopening plans.

The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) invites models to apply to be a part of this year’s 𝘾𝙄𝘼𝙁 𝙁𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙣. The annual Fashion Performance—now celebrating its 10th anniversary—has become a leading platform celebrating and promoting Indigenous fashion, haute couture and wearable art.

The 𝘾𝙄𝘼𝙁 𝙁𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙣 brings together contemporary Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultures, fine art and high-end fashion, in presenting visual storytelling through the platform of a catwalk experience. Models are encouraged to apply to participate in showing the designs of designers via the Performances, a professional photoshoot and a pre-show, mentoring experience, working closely with Lynelle Flinders (curator).

Applications are open for Queensland Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander models and emerging models. EOIs close 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟰 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹, close of business.

SPOTTED: new sand cay on the reef, but this one looks a little familiar to us 🤔🇦🇺

The Great Barrier Reef certainly is a wondrous place & it just got even better! ⛵️ Following aerial surveys of the reef over the last few weeks, this sand cay was spotted for the first time off the coast of Cairns 🏝

Chief Marine Scientist Dr. Ray Ireland says, “Since sand cays are formed from a build up of sediment on the reef, they come in all shapes and sizes. We’re really interested in doing more research into the marine life around this cay.”

It’s not unusual for new sand cays to pop up or change shape over time, but it’s not every day you end up with a sand cay that looks like Australia! 🐠

This can increase the potential for outbreaks of mosquito-borne illnesses, like Ross River virus and malaria.

Here are some simple steps to minimise the risk of mosquito bites:
👉 wear loose clothing to cover arms and legs
👉 apply insect repellent before going outside
👉 wear closed-in shoes
👉 empty containers around your yard if possible.

Most mosquito bites will result in no issues or symptoms. If you start experiencing diarrhoea, headaches, fever, or nausea, please contact your GP immediately.
