It was nice to host NSW Environment & Heritage Minister James Griffin at our Sydney R&D site last week, and be able to show him the progress we have made over the past few years and outline the opportunities innovative business like BioCarbon can bring to NSW.

Look at what we can do today:
> take low value woody biomass materials
> convert into high quality char through our unique pyrolysis machine
> manufacture into renewable carbon bricks to replace fossil coke in electric arc furnace steelmaking
> all in less than an hour!
>five pallets of carbon is enough to make about 600 tonnes of steel

Just want to share that all of the BioCarbon team have had a very successful week, with the massive effort put in over the past four years now starting to pay off.

Earlier this year, after many years of struggle we stopped to take stock and honestly evaluated our current position and other available biochar manufacturing technologies. This was a sobering exercise that sometimes you can not clearly see when deep in the middle of trying to overcome challenges on a daily basis - sometimes you just need to look from the outside.

It was also a big call made by our team and supporters to basically change direction after spending years and millions of dollars working on something. In the end we needed to make a big shift in direction to scale pyrolysis technology otherwise there was no successful pathway.

We now have a new working prototype of our technology concept that is exceeding all our performance expectations and will ultimately enable us to produce raw carbon at a low enough cost that enables further development into actual usable products that customers want and need to decarbonise their processes.

Biocarbon can now produce quality renewable carbon, pyroligneous acid, clean renewable syngas and also manufacture our fossil coke replacement for EAF steelmaking at 360 bricks/hour (still pilot scale, but proven reliable and robust process).

Our renewable EAF carbon product is unique and the only one we are aware of that is a 100% renewable replacement for fossil coke.

We are excited about the potential and the efforts we have gone to de-risk and have a pyrolysis business model that can be economically successful, and importantly meet existing market price points without subsidies.

We are now in the process of furthering our plans to develop a large scale manufacturing facility.

Green Steel: Can We Make Steel Without CO2 Emissions? 03/06/2022

BioCarbon are concentrating our efforts on replacing the fossil carbon that is required to convert iron into steel. This video gives you a good overview of possible future steel making technologies as the industry decarbonises which all still require some carbon input - hopefully our renewable carbon.
