Congratulations Hanna!

📥You’ve got mail!📥

In early December we received a delightful email from Dr Hannah Soong, a socio-cultural researcher and teacher educator at the University of South Australia.

As a mentor and advisor, Dr Soong had noticed that during the -19 lockdown in SA a lot of the University’s international students were facing unexpected hardships and isolation due to the loss of hospitality jobs and closure of university classes. As an integral part of the socio-cultural fabric of Australian society, international students play a key role in contributing to our society outside lecture rooms.

She noted that Baptist Care SA (particularly our Community Food Hub) had been reaching out to those international students who came forward to seek help and support and passed on her gratitude for this enduring support.

Dr Soong was able to access some funding through UniSA to buy $500 worth of Food Hub vouchers to continue to support those students who were isolated, alone and living without practical family support.

Last week Dr Soong came to our Inner City site and presented Craig McGlone (Manager, Community Development) and Mick Udompol (Community Food Hub Co-ordinator) with a certificate of appreciation. She also took a tour of the Community Food Hub and discussed future volunteering opportunities for young university students.

We are so very grateful. It is only through community partnerships such as this that we can continue to care for those in need 💜

Re-imagining family engagement as a two-way street 29/01/2021

Seeing this in print was not only academically important but also important to me as a parent. Hopefully it can spark some dialogue.

Re-imagining family engagement as a two-way street The calls for family-school partnerships have been strong within the literature and educational policy within Australia, however, there is little research that demonstrates what such partnerships might look like. Much of the research demonstrates a one-way street approach where schools focus on educ...

Another important survey to have your voice heard on the impact of COVID-19 on teaching and learning.

Dear Educators
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed education dramatically. The impact on teaching and learning is global, urgent and likely to alter education practices from this point onwards. We are interested to hear your stories of how you have negotiated these changes and invite you to take part in an online survey. The survey seeks to document and analyse changing education practices to produce reports, case studies, guides and other resources to support teaching and learning through the COVID-19 socially restrictive national, state and institutional rulings. Taking part in this study is completely voluntary. Your responses will be anonymous.

The Teaching & Learning in COVID-19 times study is being conducted by Associate Professor Louise Phillips (James Cook University), Dr Chris Campbell (Griffith University), Associate Professor Susan Davis (Central Queensland University), Dr Melissa Cain (Australian Catholic University), Dr Kate Coleman (University of Melbourne), Dr Geraldine Burke (Monash University), Associate Professor Jenny Ritchie (Victoria University, Wellington), Professor Cynthia Brock (University of Wyoming), and Dr Esther Joosa (Independent Researcher, Singapore).
The project has approval from the James Cook University Human Research Ethics Committee (approval no.H8090).
Click this link https://tinyurl.com/TeachinginCOVID to participate in the survey, which can take up to 20-30 minutes if you complete all questions.
