Relaxing in the Hunter with a a Barossa white. Only cause i didnt have a cold Semillon in the fridge.

A catch up day in the Hunter started at the recently revamped McWilliams Mt Pleasant, which looks stunning, then on to one of the newer Pokolbin based winemakers, PJ & Chrissie Charteris.
These guys are producing some stunning wines with fruit selected from the Hunter, Hilltops, Orange and a range of NZ wines from Cental Otago & Wanaka.
Based at the Pokolbin Creek Village, this is a must for serious winetasters. Thanks for the tasting Chrissie.
Catching up with Bruce Tyrrell was a bonus.

Just launched....My favorite Ros'e from the Barossa, and a winery we always go back to, Langmeil, in Tanunda, are releasing their 2023 Bella Rouge. We tasted it today, and it's another stunner. Very similar to the 2022, identical in colour, raspberry red, refreshing zesty, red apple finish , possibly a little more tannin than 2022 but the longer it was opened, the more it followed the 2022. Langmeil has one of the best tasting experiences in the Barossa.
Thanks to the team at Langmeil, for letting us scoop this.

Final week in South Australia and a final chance to find a few cellar doors missed on previous visits. In Greenock there is a street called Murray Street, and a winery of the same name. They have 2 vineyards, Gomersal (40 hectares) & Greenock Estate (80 hectares).Predominantly reds, everything grown on the 2 estates & made onsite at their impressive modern winery. Its family owned, by the Jenke family, and winemaker is Ben Perkins.
The cellar door is a delight as are the wines.
The only white was a classic Semillon, 2023, quite minerally, and will definitely age well. We only tried 2 reds, both big and fruity. The 2020 Greenock Estate Grenache, off bush vines, is a cracker.
The 2020 Greenock Estate Shiraz is a keeper, inky fruity and delicious already.
Natasha did a great job introducing the wines. Definitely worth a visit when visiting this sub region of the Barossa

A place of amazing history

Photos from Wineandfoodtraveller.com's post 24/08/2023

Found this little gem yesterday.Just along from the Marriot. Great concept, with 96 wines available for tasting, or by the glass. A stack of additional wines by the bottle, lots of varietals. Place has a nice vibe, they do an aperitivo type menu, this could very easily be my new local. I did notice a Wangolina Gruner and Montepulciano. Thats enough to get me back.

Pity there isnt more places locally to try bush tucker.

The Greek food festival is on again in Darwin and we stuck our heads in to take it all in last night.agreat vide, amazing culinary skills for the 1000s of attendees. The location alone was worth the visit. Hopefully my video shows a little of the vibe, if not i will put it up om my other page.

Darwin is a mecca for food markets, and with the diversity of cultures living here, the markets are an exciting experience. There are 5 main food markets in Darwin plus another in Palmerston. Then there is the Darwin Fish Market & Mr Barra Fish for for amazing fresh local seafood.
We started at the Palmerston markets as they were close to our first night coming in to Darwin, smaller but great produce.
Parap Village markets were buzzing by 10AM on Saturday, very trendy, quite small, nice vibe
Rapid Creek Markets are the next best thing to being in Singapore or Thailand, just an incredible offering of Asian inspired cuisine, fruit and vege. Plus street food vendors from all our Asian neighbours.
Tonight we are heading up the beach with Peter Savoff to explore the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, with updates to follow.

I spend at least 2 months travelling each year, especially in Italy, where I have the wonderful task of sourcing new “off the beaten track” Italian product and travel experiences for our tours.

My greatest inspiration to finding locavore from a village in Italy is the farmers market, meeting local farmers and settling into one place for an extended period of time.
