“Design for Disassembly is a technique that entails designing structures so that its materials and components can be dismantled in a non-destructive way in the future so that it can be reused, sold, recycled or donated.” Filomena Beshara, Sustainability Manager, Built.

Aiding in the solution to several current challenges, it reduces the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing new construction products, minimises the impact on nature and the need for virgin materials, and productivity.

“The construction industry represents a large part of all the waste that gets created in Australia, therefore Design for Disassembly becomes a crucial tool for us to become a more circular economy.”

That's why, Built and Coreo have created “How to write a Building Disassembly Plan”.

Congratulations to our Victorian team for winning two awards at Property Council Victoria's 2024 People in Property Awards.

Alun Welsh, Digital Engineering Manager, was the recipient of the ‘Tech in Property’ Award. Alun won this award for his digital-first approach, building 3D Virtual Reality (VR) prototypes for Sunshine Private Hospital and Latrobe Regional Hospital Stage 3A projects. This fostered improved collaboration among project stakeholders, expedited design approvals, championed sustainability best practices and saved time and money for our clients.

Our Latrobe Regional Hospital Stage 3A project team were the winners of the ‘Regional Team of the Year’ Award. The delivery team relocated from Melbourne to Traralgon for the two-year project. To optimise delivery and address supply chain disruption, the team developed an early planning strategy to manage procurement and lead times, where they achieved a 30% local labour rate.

Continuing our commitment to the community we were proud to again set sail as the Principal Partner of the Queensland Property Industry Foundation Charity Regatta. Marking our 8th consecutive year of sponsorship, this day on the water brought together over 450 guests from the property and construction industry to assist in increasing the supply of accommodation for the thousands of homeless youths.

The day forged meaningful connections as the industry united aboard 43 yachts to raise awareness of the challenge young people face in finding a safe and stable home and over $135,000 which will go towards more bedrooms for homeless youth including the Haven House Kingaroy and Logan Hub in Queensland.

We look forward to raising more awareness and much needed funds at the Sydney PIF Regatta.

The inclusion of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Emergency Department Hub into the Latrobe Regional Hospital Stage 3A program mid-delivery, led our team at Built to develop a virtual reality prototype.

The virtual reality prototype provided user-groups with a clear visualisation of the space's functionality and ambience, by overcoming time constraints and challenges in interpreting 2D drawings.

“The virtual reality model enabled us to test with the users the layout in particular with the bedroom spaces, which provided the ability to lock in the joinery locations, bed locations and articulate how users, visitors and staff would move around in the space.” Claude Di Rosso, Project Director, @‌Victorian Health Building Authority.

This facilitated a swift design approval, offering assurance to user-groups to commence construction and deliver within the Stage 3A program.

The 30,000sqm multi-storey extension of Latrobe Regional Hospital Stage 3A can now treat more patients with the addition of two new wings and the Acute building expansion. Delivered for Victorian Health Building Authority, the extension of the theatre suite will enable the hospital to perform an additional 6,000 surgeries per year.

The project leveraged our digital engineering capability to manage risk and sequence services to accelerate efficiencies.

“The most amount of effort is in sequencing and coordination of services. In a hospital, it is full of services and if we don’t build it in the right manner, it physically makes it impossible for the next trade to continue,” said Owen Mitchell, Senior Project Manager, Built.

Built effectively executed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase for the Lyell McEwin Hospital 48 Bed project and are excited to be progressing main works on site.

The ECI process involved investigations to plan and design elements of the project to offer innovative solutions for our client.

Through this stage, Built delivered value by identifying issues that could add delays and found resolutions to mitigate potential risks, offered buildability advice which achieved cost savings, ensuring safety in design, and reduction to programs.

Built is approaching the completion of Stage 1 of the Hanwha Armoured vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) for Hanwha Defence Australia.

Once complete, H-ACE will support multiple capability programs, including delivery of the Huntsman family of Self-Propelled Howitzers (SPH) and Armoured Ammunition Resupply Vehicles (AARV.

Working with Contract Manager Conscia, digital engineering has been integral to this project, eliminating delivery risks and potential defects to future-proof the 15 acre site and ensure production readiness later this year.

“Digital Engineering has been front of mind since the early stage of the project and has been an invaluable tool in ensuring we’re meeting the detailed requirements of Hanwha. It’s critical that our international partners can visualise the nuances between our Australian facility and the facilities we’re replicating internationally to ensure a smooth transition to the production phase.” said Sam Majer, Project Manager, Built.
