Almost 5 years ago I returned from Afghanistan after being a combat medic for 9 months. As proud as I am to serve my country, the trauma I have experienced has shaped my life ever since, shaped my relationships, my personality, my life. No part is untainted and even when I dream, I am disturbed.

For the past 9 months I have been working on my own business. Everything that has resulted is thanks to some mentors I've met on the way and through self teaching. A welcome distraction from my life, which for the past few years has been without direction, been without peace.

These two photos hide something. The one on the left is during a photo shoot for my product and the one to the right is Christmas Eve in Afghanistan. On both these days I tried to kill myself. Be it a pistol to my head on a sad Christmas Eves night, in a sh*tty part of the world, or the taking of more tablets then medically safe. But I am still here and I will fight everyday.

This is just a message for you to be aware that a smile may be hiding something more serious and ask 'R U OK'.

Also, create your own identity. Apparently me selling l**e is befitting of my personality, and I enjoy the work and it keeps me busy. Some days I don't get out of bed, but knowing clients are reliant on me, pushes me to make that extra effort. So I am thankful of the opportunity I have and continue to make use of.
