5 reasons your small business needs video — Mayfly Media Video Productions - Events, Aerial, Videography, Corporate, Documentaries 25/05/2022

Tell a better story🎥🎬🏢

There’s no better medium for telling the story of your brand than video. Video provides both visual and audio stimulation, which activates different areas of the brain and means viewers are more engaged with the content they’re consuming.

Plus, capturing the stories of your customers and staff is a simple, low-cost way of sharing the brand values you live and breathe. And there’s nothing more powerful than real people sharing why they love your product or enjoy being a member of your team.

📍 Wagga Wagga
👵 The Forrest Centre 👴

We’ve been happily working with our friends at The Forrest Centre, Aged Care. This time we created a short video using footage from previous projects to make a short video that they can use across a range of platforms including:

🎬 TV commercials
🎬 Websites
🎬 Social media
🎬 Conferences

This is one of the many benefits of producing multiple videos for your business or service.

You might have heard that Minister for Agriculture the Hon. David Littleproud was in town this week. Mayfly Media was proud (see what I did there 😉) to capture the event at Charles Sturt University.

Here is the low-down:

🌾The Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga will receive part of a $20 million funding boost to expand the Hub’s drought remit and drive innovation.

🌾This funding will assist the Hub to work with farmers and agriculturally-focussed communities on a range of opportunities to improve profitability and sustainability.

🌾This funding will help farmers and communities adopt a long-term perspective on drought by giving them the innovative tools and techniques to build drought-resilient businesses

📝 📝 sharing stories 📝 📝
We have been working with a youth theatre group with a difference. This group comprises refugees from Afghanistan. We have been busily documenting the “sharing stories, sharing place” project.

This group of students have prepared their own scripts, using their own words supported by Alyson Evans and Haya Arzdin. We have been following these students over recent weeks and can't wait to see how their scripts develop into the BIG show. We can’t wait to share their story with you soon.

🎭'Sharing Stories, Sharing Place'🎭

Young storytellers from the city's multiple refugee communities took to the stage this week to workshop a theatrical piece to share their stories.

They will perform their show at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre in December this year.

Have you seen the river lately?

The recent release of dam water upstream has caused quite the surge in the Murrumbidgee lately.

Local water systems have been a focus for us, having worked with the Murray Darling Basin Authority to cover a major conference recently.

We’ve adapted.
While COVID restrictions have affected some aspects of our work, at this point in time it’s more or less business as per usual for Mayfly. Naturally, filming has been impacted and while we have had to postpone some filming days in Spring and beyond, for many clients we can still film… with our COVID safe practices in place, of course.

We are looking forward to getting stuck into some filming this week. We have our fingers crossed that life in NSW will get back to normal shortly.

Patagonia – you had us at recycling...

Patagonia’s documentary about their clothes recycling project has us all inspired here at Mayfly.

It’s a beautifully shot and well-produced piece that is not only a really good example of the power of story from a marketing perspective but is also an amazing insight into a really compelling movement.

We dare you not to be inspired!

A new financial year!
It may not be as festive but for many of us in small business land, getting through another financial year is cause for a mini celebration and gives us the same chance for reflection and planning as the calendar New Year. We’re making medium sized plans this year… how about you?
May we humbly suggest that if your marketing plans don’t include video, now would be the perfect time to rectify that. We’d be happy to chat through the ways video can boost your marketing efforts!

Visiting with purpose

We’ve been happily out filming again for our friends at Riverina Community College, this time for their Community Visitors Service (CVS) – a beautiful and free program that sees volunteers visiting with people who may be at risk of experiencing isolation due to family, social or cultural reasons or due to a disability.

It’s such a pleasure to chat with some of the volunteer community visitors out there doing their thing across the Riverina. Where would our community be without the amazing contributions of our volunteers?

On the track again

Fans of the mountain region, working on a mini documentary project about the bushfire recovery on the Hume and Hovell track has been one of our favourite gigs recently.

We’ve been working alongside our good mates at Lightbox imageworks | photography to document some tree felling, bridge construction, campout hut builds and track upgrades to some 120km worth of bushfire damaged track. It might be freezing work, but we are all for it.

We all love on the Yellow Submarine…

Here at Mayfly Media, the HMAS Otway submarine in Holbrook holds a special place in our hearts.

Seven years ago this week, a fledgling Mayfly Media produced a video showcasing the amazing Yellow Submarine project for Murray Arts
With little more than a video production company dream behind us, the ever-supportive and visionary Scott Howie took a chance on us to hook us up with this gig, and we’ll forever be grateful.

We gained quite a bit of attention from that Yellow Submarine video [BB1] and we always say it was the video that launched us. Thanks Howie and Murray Arts, thanks Holbrook and thanks to our Yellow Submarine friends of the HMAS Otway!

Water and Whisky - Working with Murray-Darling Basin

Covering a conference doesn’t always add up to an interesting day but we have to say the recent Murray-Darling Basin River Reflections Conference in the Griffith area was a thoroughly interesting gig.

There was a lot of important issues to cover from many different perspectives. From climate change scientists, hydrology specialists and First Nations leaders, to Murray Cod farm and orange orchid visits, to a gala night at the amazing Whitton Malt House – our eyes were definitely opened by the experience.

“This is a story of the 70's, parties, art & rock n roll"

That’s a line you don’t hear every day!

There’s only one thing Lexie loves more than filming stories about beautiful artwork and that’s getting to know the colourful characters behind them.

We’re so happy to be working on a mini doc for Queensland Library that takes us into the wonderful world of artist Don Ross. His works are amazing and his partying sounds positively legendary.
If only we were making a full documentary!

Help customers help themselves

For many of our small business clients, they are the entire sales and marketing team (along with the finance, IT, admin and management teams). There is little time to even think about talking to prospective customers. Which means that the more they can educate their prospects about their products and services, the better. Video content makes that easy. And as a bonus, looking at the viewer stats around those videos can tell which ones are being skipped and which are being watched over and over… so they create more of the content people want.

Healthy heads and happy days
We love covering great news with great people. Last week gifted us one of those happy days when we were asked to video a media launch for a new mental health and wellbeing program supporting truck drivers, alongside one of our favourite photographers . It's always a pleasure to work with such a happy and talented professional.
In the quote of the day, Michael McCormack MP announced funding for The Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds saying, "we have to look after truck drivers because the only thing they don't deliver is babies."

Highlighting health care…
We have been filming at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and a health hub in Batlow, which gives people there access to video consults and remote medical assistance. This service means the people of the Batlow area have better access to care and only need to make the drive to Wagga when it’s absolutely necessary.
As a proud regional business, we are always happy to be involved in projects that really make a difference in a regional centre!
