What is a reformer pilates class really like?

From the moment you walk in, you will feel welcomed by everyone. The instructor will give you a quick rundown on the reformer machine (it's not as intimidating as it looks, I promise!). You will start with some gentle stretches that feel amazing, especially after a long day.

Then comes the real work! Leg presses, core exercises, and upper body work—all on the reformer. It’s challenging, but in the best way. You will really feel your muscles working and strengthening with each move.The best part? The instructor tailors the exercises to fit everyone’s level, so no one feels left behind. By the end of the class, you will complete a cool-down that will leave you feeling both relaxed and energised.

It is an absolute pleasure having Franz and his wife, Karen as part of our Awaken community. Always so positive an bubbly when they walk through our door.
Have read of how Awaken Pilates and Yoga has changed his life.

I am 64 years young, male and have suffered from lower back pain, lack of flexibility and stiffness in the neck area for quite some time.

My wife had been suggesting ideas on doing various exercises and I have palmed them off left, right and centre.

I retired recently and decided I would give pilates a go with my wife. Felt strange at first as I was and still am to date the only male person (that I am aware of) participating amongst these women. My first few sessions were interesting, and I was quite sore initially, however, having participated for approximately 12 weeks now and 3 days a week, this had diminished.

I could just bend past my knees when I was attempting to touch my toes. Now, I am about 50mm from touching my toes. With this degree of flexibility, my back pain has diminished and the stiffness in my neck has improved to a point where I can nearly look over my shoulder on both sides.

The instructors are amazing. Being partially deaf and unable to wear my hearing aids during exercises, once I informed the instructors of my hearing disability, the instructors then placed themselves in a position so I can easily hear or see them. This makes it a much more pleasant experience.

With that, any gents out there that want to join in, please do and see how much fun it is and the long-term benefits.
