POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Having policies and procedures in place is an essential part of any business, especially if you have people working for you.

All casual employees must be given a copy of the Casual Employment Information Statement (CEIS) before, or as soon as possible after, they start a new job.

The CEIS includes info about conditions of employment for casuals like when they need to be offered part-time or full-time employment.

Remember, employers have to give the Fair Work Information Statement (FWIS) to all new employees (full-time, part-time and casual) too.

When you own a business it can often be difficult to ask for support. You get so used to doing everything that asking for support can be tough. Outsourcing your admin tasks is a great way to allow your business to grow, to free up your time to focus on the business, your strengths, e.g sales, operations etc.

Doing your own admin can be time consuming and can often lead to mistakes or missed business opportunities. At Base Admin, there's not much we haven't seen before, we are highly organised and efficient. It's our job to stay on top of admin tasks so you don't have to!

😞😳😟 Accidents happen, but your wages generally can’t be docked to pay for them. Check the rules about when your wages can be deducted to make sure you’re not getting ripped off: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay-and-wages/deducting-pay-and-overpayments -money-out-of-an-employees-pay

Same goes if the till is short or a customer leaves without paying – it can’t be deducted from your pay.

There are only limited situations where your boss can take money out of your pay. They are:
• when you agree to the deduction in writing and it’s principally for your benefit
• it’s allowed by a law, a court order, or by the Fair Work Commission
• it’s allowed under your award
• it’s allowed under your registered agreement and you’ve agreed to it.

Examples of acceptable deductions include salary sacrifice arrangements or additional payments into your super fund.

All deductions must be shown on your pay slip and included in your time and wages records.

Remember, your boss can take reasonable management action to address poor performance or underperformance at work.

Serious misconduct can include unprofessional, dangerous or unlawful behaviour (like theft, among other issues) and may warrant instant dismissal.

*SUPER UPDATE*

From 1 November, Single Default Account (‘stapling’) will commence. This new legislation will have significant impact on employer super obligations and the onboarding process of new employees.

Single Default Account means that employers will no longer create a super account in their default fund for employees who don't choose a Super Fund. Employers will instead now be required to search for an employee’s existing stapled fund by contacting the ATO and should pay contributions to that fund. Only when the ATO advises the employee has no existing stapled fund may contributions be paid to the Employers default fund.
