The B.S.S.I takes pollution serious!

As a company involved with the ocean we want to use our platform to educate how much of an impact plastic has on the environment.

There is now 5.25 trillion macro and micro pieces of plastic in our ocean & 46,000 pieces in every square mile of ocean, weighing up to 269,000 tonnes. Every day around 8 million pieces of plastic makes their way into our oceans.

Let us show you how we take this invasive sargassum seaweed and infuse it into a rich with mineral Sea Salt, or as we call it “Sargassa Sea Salt”.

What is sargassum:

Sargassum species are tropical and sub-tropical brown macroalgae (seaweed) of shallow marine meadow. These are nutritious and rich source of bioactive compounds such as vitamins, carotenoids, dietary fibers, proteins, and minerals.

In the open ocean, Sargassum provides great ecological values, serving as a habitat and refuge for various marine animals. However, too much of the seaweed can smother corals and seagrasses, and end up on beaches, releasing gas that smells like rotten eggs.

We at the B.S.S.I. Will be assisting in dropping the quantities of sargassum hitting the shores of Barbados as we need to catch it while it’s still in the ocean in it’s prime state to be infused into Sea water and later evaporated into “Sargassa Sea Salt”

What is Sea Salt:

Sea salt is salt that is produced by the evaporation of seawater. It is used as a seasoning in foods, cooking, cosmetics and for preserving food. It is also called bay salt, solar salt, or salt. Like mined rock salt, production of sea salt has been dated to prehistoric times.
