Today is World Hypertension Day.
What is hypertension? Information By the World Health Organization
Hypertension, also known as high or raised blood pressure, is a condition in which the blood vessels have persistently raised pressure. Blood is carried from the heart to all parts of the body in the vessels. Each time the heart beats, it pumps blood into the vessels. Blood pressure is created by the force of blood pushing against the walls of blood vessels (arteries) as it is pumped by the heart. The higher the pressure, the harder the heart has to pump.

Hypertension is a serious medical condition and can increase the risk of heart, brain, kidney and other diseases. It is a major cause of premature death worldwide, with upwards of 1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women – over a billion people – having the condition. The burden of hypertension is felt disproportionately in low- and middle-income countries, where two thirds of cases are found, largely due to increased risk factors in those populations in recent decades.

It’s important to keep check of your blood pressure as this can keep you in checked.

This is one of the reasons why we continue to do our Check Tour because we know a lot of persons are walking around not knowing their numbers.

As the saying goes “keep check or be checked when it’s to late” know your numbers.

Throw back to Our “Out and about Barbados Scenic Tour 1.0”
So we have started a series of events where we are encouraging our clients/patients to get out of the house to see modern day Barbados.
Because a patient may be sick or elderly it doesn’t mean they should be confined to “4 walls”
Just imagine you were so accustomed to being a road runner and then because you took sick or you got older you are from room to room or just around the house?
We take all of this into consideration when it comes to our lovely clients/patients.

We are taking three clients at a time due to viral illnesses are still around, a small group is easier to manage and plus when we have persons who require wheel chair accessible vehicles we want to be able to have enough room to make sure that they are comfortable.

We were honored to take out these three beautiful ladies.
When we thought Shakira was going to be the tour guide guess who took that role up? Our lovely Mrs. M. Would you believe she had us in awe with the places she remembered and talk about knowing them to a T even though some places would have developed? Omg yessss she did.

Our day was full of so much laughter, education, sight seeing and Ofcourse yes with our treat boxes to dive into some sandwiches, pizza meat cutters, cake etc along with water to keep us hydrated and juice.

We have touched all around the island and took some beautiful photos and videos. ( all the photos and videos could not fit into this reel😩)

Special Thanks to:
for sending us such a wonderful pleasant driver by the name of Anderson who helped along the way with every want and need.
Nurse Brathwaite, Nurse Grant, our management team and most of all our clients’ relatives who supported us with the go ahead to take out their loved ones.
Stay tuned for part 2.0 and more events coming for all our clients.

Even if your loved one is not a client of ours we can also extend to you. Get involved 😁😁

Hope you enjoyed our video.

In the photo this meal consisted of fried fish, cream potato, steamed veg and toss salad was prepared by one of our nurses who has a specialty in food and beverage. This meal was tasty as confirmed by both patients.🥰💕

Let’s have a talk about nutrition.
What is Nutrition?
Nutrition is the process of taking in food and converting it into energy and other viral nutrients required for life.

Here at COLMS we put a lot of focus into patient nutrition especially with our aging population. On our patient’s plate must havea starch, protein and for sure some veggies/salad.

Most people are not aware that sometimes poor nutrition can affect the aging process and also can affect a number of things, to name a few:
wound healing
Physical appearance
Cognitive function

A balance meal for the average person should include the five main food groups which are: vegetables and legumes, fruit, grains and cereals , protein and carbohydrates.

It’s World Parkinson’s Day and to help spread awareness we are answering the FAQ, "What is Parkinson’s disease dementia?"

When a person who has already been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease later experiences symptoms of dementia, such as changes in thinking ability, they may be given a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease dementia.

The condition is a type of Lewy body dementia – the umbrella term which includes both Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies. These conditions can cause changes in thinking, movement, behaviour and bodily functions.

The progress of Parkinson’s disease dementia can be quite slow compared to other forms of dementia.

Do you have questions about Parkinson’s disease dementia? Contact the National Dementia Helpline at https://www.dementia.org.au/helpline or by calling 1800 100 500. We’re here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Happy Review Sunday🌞
Client reviews are important to us, here at COLMS we put a lot of focus on our clients, we do random pop ups to make sure all is going well, we do monthly check ins with our clients and their family to see how everything is going with their caregivers and nurses and see where there is room for improvement. Above is a review from our clients who is satisfied with the care being offered to her mom by one of our nurses who they adore and love so much.

Shirlz who is also our nurse manager has been very dedicated, punctual and strives to do her best in all areas.
Since Shirley started working with us, we never had an issue, not once and far from that every single client Shirlz was in contact with wanted her to come back especially when she filled in for others. To know Shirlz is to love her!
Give us 100 more of Shirlz and we will conquer the world 😁😁
We appreciate all of our staff because without them we will not be where we are today! Thanks to all Clients as well for believing in us and always sending referrals our way 😁🥰

Beautiful throwback to our Check tour 2.0.
As some of you guys may know, our objective for the check tour is to offer free blood pressure checks, free blood sugar testing and free education and literature to the public.
Why?
From doing this check tour and based on the survey we carry out while doing the checks, we realize the following:
1. A lot of people are walking around daily not eating timely or properly.

2. They don’t get regular checkups even if it’s annually. When asked when was your last check up the response many have given is “I can’t even remember, years now.”

3. To add to the above, because some persons are working 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet due to the rise in the economy, spending money or even going to public health care is a challenge and time consuming.

4. Many are walking around with high pressures, high blood sugars and not aware and that’s due to various factors such as stress, bad eating habits and lots more..

We receive great feedback from the patients we have seen so far, our education and literature has prompt persons to go get their medical checks with their doctors and some even have changed up their diets and more!!!!

We will continue to do our check tours around the island. If you are interested in donating to our initiative or would like to chip in, in any way feel free to contact us at 267-8911 to discuss further.

Special thanks to for having us.
for sponsoring us guru_ for always coming through and helping with the survey and Nurse Norville who volunteered without hesitation and all persons who wish to remain anonymous 😁

A little Sunday Morning motivation from our patient and us at COLMS👇🏽
“Those blocks on your life journey can either be ROAD BLOCKS or BUILDING BLOCKS. It’s up to you to CHOSE!”

Here is some important information.
Do you know playing games, doing arts and craft, daily exercises and activities assist with good brain health?

Here at COLMS, our nursing and caregiving team encourage and help our patients whether elderly or young with these activities such as playing games like scrabbles ,connect 4, monopoly, snakes and ladders, dominoes, cards and lots of other board games. We also play games like animal, person, place or thing, x and o’s, word search, sudoku, watch wheel of fortune and other games shows on the television.

We focus a lot as well on arts and crafts, word puzzles, dot to dot, painting, playing and shaping playdoh or plasticine , building blocks or legos (as seen in the photo)

Why are these activities good to get patients participate in? Because they aid with BRAIN HEALTH.👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

What Is Brain Health?

Brain health refers to how well a person’s brain functions across several areas.

Aspects of brain health include:

Cognitive health — how well you think, learn, and remember

Motor function — how well you make and control movements, including balance

Emotional function — how well you interpret and respond to emotions (both pleasant and unpleasant)

Tactile function — how well you feel and respond to sensations of touch — including pressure, pain, and temperature

Brain health can be affected by age-related changes in the brain, injuries such as stroke or traumatic brain injury, mood disorders such as depression, substance use disorder or addiction, and diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. While some factors affecting brain health cannot be changed, there are many lifestyle changes that might make a difference.

We hope this information is useful to you 👊🏾
Book with us to help you or your loved one and bring them back to health 😁😁😆😆contact info-283-4166 or 267-8911 call or WhatsApp
