Even on Victory Day, our learners passionately advocate for our cherished Barisal Nook to remain open. They express that, on this significant day, numerous friends who possess paint boxes opt to create artwork within the confines of their homes. However, for those who lack such resources, the Nook becomes their preferred destination to celebrate Independence Day.

Joy emanates as a consequence of victory, and on this day of jubilation, we willingly unlock the doors of our corner to partake in and amplify their delight. Together, we create an atmosphere where the spirit of independence is not only celebrated but also shared with our own community.

Rob Stoelman, Project Manager of the PTIB project by United Nations Development Programme in Bangladesh , recently visited Barishal Nook. He was amazed by the innovative ideas and aspirational approach of the learners towards self-learning and creating unique products that are also environment-friendly.

Learners are working on their goals for the cycle, from making a handy saw machine to learning the art of magic and how science and tricks work behind the artistic beauty of magic through making different tools. Some days, learners take the opportunity to work with other teams furthermore, which they find fascinating apart from their goals.

Green Ink. and BYS - বিওয়াইএস have jointly organized a collaborative event at Banani titled Think-Through Workshop 2023 to explore strategies and approaches for optimizing Barishal Nook.
This event brought together leaders from Green Ink, BYS, and Barishal Nook officials for a day of collaborative exploration.

The workshop focused on reviewing past achievements, discussing future plans, and sharing recent efforts by leaders from both organizations. They emphasized working together on environmental preservation, youth empowerment, and community engagement.

The ground floor of the Nook and the surrounding nearby area have been waterlogged for the last three days due to continuous rainfall.

1st floor of the Nook is open for the nearby community members to take place in case of emergency as it will take time to drain even after the rain stops.

Learners from Barishal Nook joined Movers Changemakers Summit 2023. They have showcased their projects made of waste material and share how they combine innovation, technology, and creativity to produce environment-friendly products.

They shared the same stage as professionals. They explained to the audience what Nook is and how learning happens here. They amazed the audience with their unique way of finding out solutions and stole the show with their agile yet confident attitude and their way of learning.

গত ৫ জুন পালিত হয়েছে "বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস ২০২৩"। যার প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় ছিল ‘সলিউশনস টু প্লাস্টিক পল্যুশন’। আমাদের বরিশাল নুকের লার্নার্সরা গত ৩ বছর ধরেই প্লাস্টিককে রি-ইউজ করে বিভিন্ন সলিউশন দেবার চেষ্টা করে আসছে। যার ধারবাহিকতায় এ বছরও কমিউনিটি থেকে প্লাস্টিকের ফেলে দেয়া জিনিসপত্র সংগ্রহ করে তৈরি করা হয়েছে এসকল সুভেনিয়ার। যা আমারা আমাদের পার্টনার সংগঠনের হাতে তুলে দেই এবং তাদের সাথে এডভোকেসি করি যে, আমরা চাইলেই ‘সল্যুশনস টু প্লাস্টিক পল্যুশন’ বাস্তবায়ন করা সম্ভব।

On the 5th of June, the global community observed "World Environment Day 2023" under the theme of "Solutions to Plastic Pollution." As part of this initiative, learners from our Barishal Nook actively explored innovative methods to repurpose plastic waste. Leveraging their creativity and knowledge, they crafted a unique souvenir using discarded plastic sourced from their local community. This thoughtful gesture served as a means to convey our message to our partner organizations and sparked conversations and advocacy efforts centered around finding solutions to combat plastic pollution.

If you decide to make your own little airplane, you're in for a really cool learning adventure! You'll need to use your brain to figure out how to make it work and look good. You'll learn about how air moves around things, how to design things, and how planes work.

You might run into some tricky situations while you're building it, but you'll learn how to keep trying different things until you get it right.

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উপলক্ষে বরিশাল নুক এর লার্নাররা পরিবেশে প্লাস্টিকের বিরূপ প্রভাব সম্পর্কে জানার পাশাপাশি পরিত্যক্ত প্লাস্টিকের বোতল, চামচ সংগ্রহ করে পূনর্ব্যাবহারের মাধ্যমে এবং পরিবেশ বান্ধব পাটের ছালা ও বোর্ডের সমন্বয়ে তৈরি করে অসাধারন সব ক্রাফটস।

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the learners of Barishal Nook learned about the adverse effects of plastic on the environment.
Besides that, they took the initiative to collect and recycle discarded plastic bottles and spoons and made beautiful crafts using eco-friendly jute bark and boards.

Each craft is accompanied by riddles about our past heritage and messages about preserving endangered fauna, flora, and artistic and cultural elements. See if you know the answers to the riddles.

By engaging students in fun and interactive activities and providing them with access to mentors and resources, the campaign aims to inspire a lifelong love of learning and personal growth.

Team Champiom emerged as victorious in the highly anticipated NPL (Nook Premier League) Season 1 Short-pitch Cricket tournament. Throughout the tournament, among 4 teams, Team Champion showcased exceptional skills and maintained their momentum to secure the championship title. Their team coordination and understanding of the game strategies stood out as they dominated their opponents with impressive batting and bowling performance. The intense competition in the league showed that every team was not just composed of individual talents but also sporty team spirit. Team Night Riders are the runner-up in the tournament and offered high contests.

On the recent Barishal Nook visit of Christoph Neusiedl(Senior Consultant, knodel foundation), he received a token of love from our own leaner’s startup Gloire. Gloire produces handmade and customized goods ranging from saree to decorating crafts or any daily needs with a lucrative and unique look.

During a recent Nook visit, Christoph(Senior Consultant, Knodel Foundation), and Ehsan Kabir(Country Representative, IFNB-Initiative for New Education) got the opportunity to experience and listen to several learner stories and discuss startup ideas with innovators from Barishal Nook. Guests are impressed by the diverse range of learners that visited the Nook, each with their unique experiences and challenges. From learners seeking advice applications to career professionals exploring new career paths, everyone had a story worth listening to. It was evident how Nook's personalized learning approach was helping learners achieve their goals and aspirations. As we discussed startup ideas, we appreciated the insights shared by entrepreneurs who emphasized innovation and scalability as key factors influencing success. Overall, this experience reinforced the belief in continuous learning and reminded the positive impact of unschooling can have on people's lives when used effective measures.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Bangladesh team recently visited Barishal Nook, a self-designed learning space where the learners gave them a warm welcome by showcasing their work and sharing their ideas. The purpose of the visit was to observe the progress that has been made in creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all learners.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Bangladesh team was impressed with the system of goal-based self-design education that this space fosters and encourages, as well as the adaptive flexibility it allows. As part of their stay, they also provide feedback on the projects done by the learners, which have been helpful for the learners to improve their work at the next level. This visit will help foster strong collaborative ties between local initiatives within Bangladesh and more significant international networks.
