On December 10, 2023, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) that amended the tax rates for approved provident funds, approved gratuity funds, approved superannuation funds, and approved pension funds. The revised tax rate is now 15%, down from the previous rate of 27.5% as stipulated in the new Income Tax Act 2023.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) today on 29 November 2023 issued a circular extending the Tax Day for individual assessee to 31 January 2024 and for company assessee to 28 February 2024.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site managerial role in Audit & Assurance, located in Chattogram. As a Manager - Audit & Assurance, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, executing, and finalizing of audit assignments according to client needs, establishing engagement budgets, managing schedules and client expectations and leading assigned audit teams. You will also be responsible for reviewing audit procedures, preparing reports and financial statements, and addressing client concerns. The Manager - Audit & Assurance will report to the partner of the firm and work closely with members of the audit team, clients, and partners to provide high-quality and comprehensive financial solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or related field
CA part qualified preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience in the audit and assurance field, including 3 years of CA articleship experience
Strong knowledge of IFRS, IAS, ISA and related legislation
Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects, clients, and staff
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders, and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients and team members
Strong organisational and time-management skills, with an attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Experience with leading audit software applications and databases
Fluency in English and Bangla both oral and written

In a recent development, Bangladesh Bank, through Circular No. 15 dated October 1, 2023, has directed all authorised dealer banks to refrain from deducting any tax on inward remittances related to income from IT freelancing. This directive is in line with the government's new income tax law, which exempts such income from taxation.

Today on 24 August 2023 NBR (National Board of Revenue) issued the attached clarification regarding tax assessment of the Assessment Year 2023-2024 following the compliance of The Income Tax Ordinance but the issuance of the notices, hearing, tax assessment sections and related processing will be done under The Income Tax Act 2023 and The Finance Act 2023.

Today on 23 August 2023 NBR (National Board of Revenue) issued the SRO no. 253 declaring the tax deduction at source as the final tax liability of the Assessee as per following criteria:

1) Tax deduction at source from interest or profit on Savings Deposits, Term Deposits etc. from the Assessee who is exempted from submission of income tax return U/S 166(2) of The Income Tax Act 2023;

2) Tax deduction at source from interest on Savings Certificates from all types of individual Assessee;

3) Tax deduction at source from cash incentive against export from all types of Assessee;
