ছিলেন। পাকিস্তান আমলে তিনি মন্ত্রী হয়েছিলেন। ধনপতিখোলা প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে নরেন্দ্রনাথের শিক্ষাজীবন শুরু হয়। কুমিল্লা জেলা স্কুল থেকে ১৯০৬ সালে তিনি প্রবেশিকা এবং কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজ থেকে ১৯০৮
সালে এফ.এ পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হন। মাত্র ২৫০ টাকা সম্বল করে তিনি কলকাতা যান এবং কলকাতা মেডিক্যাল কলেজে ভর্তি হন। রাতে খিদিরপুর ডকে কুলির কাজ করে তিনি তাঁর পড়ার খরচ জোগাতেন। তাঁর অধ্যবসায়ের কথা জানতে পেরে কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ কর্নেল ক্যালভার্ট তাঁকে আর্থিক সাহায্য দেন। ১৯১৫ সালে
নরেন্দ্রনাথ এম.বি ডিগ্রি লাভ করেন। ক্যালভার্টের সুপারিশে তিনি ‘Indian Emergency War Service’ এ কমিশন লাভ করেন। একজন লেফটেন্যান্ট হিসেবে নরেন্দ্রনাথ ইঙ্গ-তুর্কি যুদ্ধে অংশ নেন। তিনি ক্যাপ্টেন পদে
পদোন্নতি পান এবং প্রধান মেডিকেল অফিসারের পদ লাভ করেন। ১৯২৫ সালে চাকরি থেকে
অবসর গ্রহণের পর তিনি ‘Bengal Immunity’ নামে এক কেমিকেল কোম্পানিতে যোগদান করেন।
পরবর্তী সময় তিনি এ কোম্পানির নির্বাহী পরিচালকের পদে অধিষ্ঠিত হন। ক্যাপ্টেন নরেন্দ্রনাথ ১৯৪১
সালে তাঁর নিজের গ্রাম শ্রীকাইলে একটি কলেজ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন এবং এর নাম দেন বাণী পীঠ। এটি ছিল

Sreekail College founded in village Sreekail of muradnagar upazila of the district of comilla in 1941 by Captain Narendranath Dutta, a philanthropist who rose from an impoverished family to one of the richest men in the region by dint of his labour and intelligence. This was the second A-grade college of the then Tippera district. The college started its journey with only 52 students. Although at the beginning the college had no girl students, their number was about 400 in the total of the college's 900 students in 2000. At present, there are 34 male and three female teachers in the college. The performance of the students of the college in public examinations is very good. The college earned reputation when one of its students Arun Dutta, stood first in all Bengal Intermediate Examination in 1945. Every year two or three students appear in the merit list of top twenties among these who pass the higher secondary examinations. There are six thousand books and periodicals in the college library. The college laboratory is equipped with necessary apparatus. The students of this college perform well in the inter-college games and sports. BNCC and Rover Scouting facilities are also available in the college. The college has a sound financial standing. Its sources of income include farming output from its 30 acres of land, shops at Sreekail Bazar, students' tuition fees, and government grant. The college has a three-storied academic cm administrative building, a two-storied academic building, a three-storied principal's quarter, 20 flats for teachers, a students hostel, an auditorium and some one-room quarters for bachelor teachers. The total value of all assets of the college is estimated at about Tk 130 million. Among its alumni there are teachers, engineers, doctors, civil servants, army officials, artists, politicians and social workers. Sreekail College played a glorious role in the war of liberation. Shahjahan Siddiqui, an alumnus of the college got the gallantry title of 'Bir Bikram'.
