Bangladesh Female Academy (BFA) Derai, Sunamgonj, Bangladesh
(A Free Educational Institute only for Poor, Orphan & Homeless Girls)
Aims and Objectives
We all are aware of the reality of Female Education in Bangladesh. Although it is known to people of different sectors yet for want of opportunities and facilities anything remarkable can not be done. We have seen in different rural areas while
walking that there are different schools, colleges and different institutions. But because of insufficient family facilities those girls of such families are deprived of education. For this reason most of such girls, especially orphan, poor and homeless girls have been engaged as maid servants and other known and unknown works in different places and houses, passing miserable days and become victim to women assault. Indeed we have to say that those girls should not be deprived of the light of education. Keeping this objective in view since 1982, we were prepared to set up ‘Bangladesh Female Academy’. Lands were purchased and development work has been started and advanced a lot. Although 4 acres of lands have been bought and the primary works of two buildings started through donation from Mr. Jamil Chowdhury personally but it was extremely difficult for one family to accomplish such a big task for which we seek assistance from people of home & abroad (130 Founder Members). Specially UK Probashi Friends (Founder Members) yet but finishing work have been completed within 2006, the institution started functioning on and from the 6th April 2006. “Bangladesh Female Academy” (BFA), the only free residential academy in the country has made remarkable contribution for the educational development of the orphan, poor & homeless girls with the overall assistance and suggestions of all. It may be mentioned here that every year students of BFA participate at the Bangabandu National Stadium in March Past and Procession, become victorious and receive National Awards. Although this institution has started functioning a few years ago, students have become victorious since the beginning till today by defeating different famous institutions by means of displaying their talent and performance. Besides, students of class V and VIII have achieved brilliant results at the Final Examination. We hope assistance from the government and cooperation from all students of BFA will make remarkable national and international contribution. This will play a vital role in creating awareness for female education. Present Situation
The work of a two and three storied building is going on at the 4 acres of land in two multistoried building with 247 girls students and 27 teachers and staff. The institution has been running with free residential facilities from class I to XII with the approval of Education Board, Ministry of Education and cooperation from all particularly from sponsors, Management Committee, Founder members and with the assistance of the Ministry of Social Welfare despite acute financial crisis. Problems have not been solved completely rather at the admission of new students, financial, accommodation and classroom problems are increasing. Unless building for classes of 275 students and hostel is not built then students can not be admitted in next December 2014. Even the students along with the teachers and staff maintaining their food and accommodation at the classroom. Current Funding of BFA:
26 Students’ sponsors, Personal Donation, Governments Grant, Zakat, Fitra and from Family Donation (but this Fund is insufficient for which every month there are big shortage of funds). In such a situation, More Funds needed for works at various sectors and more 249 sponsors are required for food also needed urgent financial support
