The United States will count on Turkey after leaving Afghanistan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the remarks while talking to reporters in Istanbul on Sunday. He says Turkey will be the "only reliable" country in maintaining stability in Afghanistan after Washington withdraws its troops.

Erdogan left for Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on Sunday to attend the NATO summit. He spoke to reporters at the airport before heading to Brussels. Erdogan also said he would discuss stability in Afghanistan during a meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the NATO summit on Monday.

The Turkish president said the United States was preparing to leave Afghanistan soon. From the moment they left, Turkey was the only reliable country in the United States.

Erdogan said what Turkey's plans are for Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US troops; Turkish officials have informed Washington about that. They are satisfied with it. Speaking to reporters, the Turkish president did not elaborate on the plan.

NATO member Turkey wants to stay in Afghanistan after US troops leave. They have already cleared the matter. However, it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving Afghanistan.

A Turkish official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that if Turkey wanted to stay in Afghanistan, on what basis would they stay? Under the NATO alliance or on bilateral terms? If it is NATO sponsored then under whose authority will they be there? The official said Western countries wanted to see Turkey's presence in Afghanistan. They want security at Kabul airport. But why would Turkey try so hard if no one supports it? These issues need to be clarified.

The Taliban said on Saturday that it had "no hope" of maintaining a military presence in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US and NATO troops. It is the responsibility of Afghans to ensure the security of embassies and airports.
