Concord group is the pioneer of concrete blocks
Concord was the first company to set up automated batching plants to supply ready-mix concrete for construction back in 1990. It was the first company to set up concrete block plants in Bangladesh and now has four fully automated plants that manufacture concrete blocks (load bearing blocks, hollow blocks, and solid blocks), paving blocks, ceiling blocks and a host of other concrete products, since 1998. It brought in fundamental changes in construction technology in this country by introducing advanced steel tubular form work system in place of bamboo props and unsafe conventional scaffolding.
Cost savings using concrete products
Total brick produced in 2013 is 3000 million using timber, coal and gas as fuel costing TK. 4500 million. The power need of equivalent cement-block comes to TK. 1350 million, a net savings of TK. 3150 million could be achieved.Cement requirement for green/alternate bricks is reduced by 50%. Water savings: to produce 300 crore bricks water requirement is 1050 million cft., whereas the same number of cement concrete block (dry mix method of production) will require 150 million cft. of water, with a savings of 900 million cft. If concrete building products are used in construction instead of traditional burnt clay bricks, it can save up to 20% of the total cost. Concrete blocks are fire resistant. Hollow blocks provide good insulation to heat and sound. Faster construction is possible if one use concrete blocks.
