🫀 Representing the Body as Space, Tool and Material: An Afternoon with Danny Devos about his Art > This Sunday 18.02.2024 > 14:00 > Free entrance > Reserve a seat now. During the afternoon Devos will share the concepts and motivations informing his practice, as well as his perceptions with regard to the performative document and the ways in which his art is being registered, which brought him in recent years to remake his performances by means of encapsulated 3D models. The meeting will focus also on Devos’ cultural and historical references. It will include an in-depth interview and film excerpts presenting documentation of the artist’s performances and exhibitions, about well as movies reflecting his fields of interest and research. Danny Devos (born 1959 in Vilvoorde, lives and works in Antwerp) is a prolific body and performance artist. A one-man movement his portfolio consists of 174 performances carried out in more than forty cities worldwide, amounting to a profound, existential elaboration on the human condition of the individual in current times of accelerated systemization. 20-year-old Performance artist Danny Devos aka DDV performs 'Installation - 1' in Koninklijke Akademie voor Schone Kunsten, Berouw, Gent, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

During a party I made an installation at the entrance with wooden walls and a wooden floor. I lay under the floor, supporting the wood with my body. My head and chest were visible through a window in the floor. Before I had inflicted wounds on my head and chest. After 3 hours I stopped because some spectators were reacting too aggressive.

In November 2022 I made a model remake of my performance.

2 September 1981. De Gentse post stempelt een enveloppe af die vijf dagen eerder is verstuurd vanuit Nice, Frankrijk. De enveloppe en haar inhoud zijn bestemd voor P.O. BOX444, die gehuurd is door Danny Devos (°1959), een student van de Academie voor Schone Kunsten die op dat moment in een huisje woont aan het Prinsenhof 3 in Gent. De gedrukte hoofding op de enveloppe vermeldt “MUSÉE D’ART VIVANT. NICE. BEN VAUTIER. 103, Route de Saint Pancrace. 06100 NICE”. De Franse kunstenaar Benjamin Vautier (°1935), beter gekend als Ben, antwoordt op een anoniem verzoek dat Danny Devos hem in augustus 1981 heeft bezorgd: “TELL ME SOME VERY PRIVATE THINGS ABOUT YOU. PLEASE DON’T MENTION YOUR NAME OR ADRESS (sic). SEND TO P.O.BOX444 9000 GENT 1. BELGIUM. THANKS. THIS FORM HAS BEEN SENT TO 100 PEOPLE.”

Danny Devos realiseert het mail art project in 1981 zonder de intentie om de antwoorden te publiceren of tentoon te stellen. Met deze expositie in KIOSK worden de antwoorden voor de allereerste keer publiek gemaakt. Te bekijken van 18/12/2023 tot 07/01/2024 in Kiosk, Gent.
